Not sure this fits as hardly a classic and technically the bodywork isn't rotting but there are about 10 in the yard:

There used to be at least 6 original 6 window XR4s n the yard but they disappeared.

Well live and learn. I thought they were standardised back in the sixties - what are the differences?

Standard is 8'x8.5'x20', a high cube is 8'x9.5'x20'.

I'd have to say that with any other car that'd be fine but with a Rover you're still taking a massive gamble that it won't collapse in the middle a crush you! silly

(It's just a joke people! - just a joke!)
Not a very good one though eh... must try harder.

I fear your mind is definitely set. You qualify superbly ... frown

Back on scrapyards for a minute, I reckon they must lose some money when they convert to "off the shelf" instead of "rummage" yards. I can't count the number of times I used to visit my local yard looking for something, then when I couldn't find it, scout around and get something I could do the job with, sometimes off a completely different car. Or just buy something that I thought might be useful at some point in the future.
Good point well made. So very true.

There are several breaker yards and car salvage recyclers within a few miles radius of where I live which are visited frequently. One is strictly "off the shelf" only and their prices are silly high.

Wanting the larger front brake calipers for a Rover 600 brake upgrade a few years ago, I was quoted £90 the pair by the off the shelf outfit. Only certain models in the 600 range had these larger calipers fitted. Three miles away and a few minutes later, I found exactly what I was looking for in the "remove it yourself" yard. Less than an hour and twelve quid lighter later, I had my larger brake calipers.

That's the problem with some of the later Rover jokes, they're not the best quality and so few people seem to like or enjoy them that they have become quite rare.

The problem tends to be that they are thrown together quite quickly with such poor attention to detail, and so many are just face-lifts of previous Rover jokes.

Sadly, the joke I presented seems to have been lacking any design flair and was poorly constructed during it's assembly process!

Basically I appear to completely misread the whole Rover joke market, thinking I could still churn out the same old poor quality routine without anyone noticing that the joke was in reality a 15 year old design simply face-lifted.

Hopefully I might be able to find some Chinese comedians to whom I can offload the whole Rover-joke operation on, but deep down, I can't help feeling that their comedy-Rover efforts might not be any fun either!

It does seem strange to Me though that Rover fans don't appear to have a more relaxed sense of humour! - all things considered! wink

I was thinking it was the mould they use for future models.

No need to go to such lengths to demonstrate 100% confirmation of the 'mindset'. So, worth repeating about a truly pathetic joke of a joker ...

It's not that the jokes are about Rovers, Rovers are the joke! And the reason that they are becoming rare is that they self destruct to the point of not being viably restorable, tin worm becomes king.

More evidence of the brainwashed mindset.

Soooo... only Rovers self destruct.

Who knew?

Suggest you and all the others of that mindset visit your local car recyclers and look closely to note the corrosion levels on some of those far 'superior' cars. You may learn something to change the set of your mind.

Having grown up through the Rover era from the P6 through to their demise a few years back I think I have witnessed enough of the marque and their inherent corrosion to be able to make a reasonably accurate assesment without suffering the effects of brainwashing.

Yes, some have suvived the rigours of time without falling foul of the poor protection against the elements but the majority have fallen foul of rust. Being the product of a company spawned out of a BMC/BLMC heritage it's hardly surprising.

I am pleased to hear that some have pristine examples and that the owners are enthusiasts of the make and I respect that, but, it has to be said the majority of the few vehicles that survive are less than perfect examples.

It's only my opinion.........something that I'm entitled to after all.
