Nothing other than an old Merc, and rotting to nothing. a few pictures from a few years ago, car didn't move in the 5 years or so I lived nearby, I suspect it will eventually dissolve into nothing. another year or so later: Shame really.

I know its rather low brow BG, but if you see it again, could you pop a note under the windscreen I saw it being driven near Harrods in the summer, so it can't have been parked up for too long It's certainly not neglected and it does move. P.S. The City appears to have moved 4 miles to the left.

Surely one of the most famous cases is the guy in the states who owns the original Bullitt Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in the film. Rumour has it that it's sat in a barn somewhere rotting away and the owner has refused some serious offers to sell it. I read somewhere that many years back Steve McQueen himself tried to buy the car back but the owner was asking such a ridiculous price at the time that McQueen decided it wasn't worth it.
This highlights a bizarre quirk when it comes to these cars and that is that in the vast majority of cases, the owners have no intention of putting the car back on the road ever again or doing anything with them and at the same time, they staunchly refuse to sell it to someone who wants to restore it to it's former glory!.

I remember an interview with (I think) Quentin Willson about this car. he said the same thing: the car used, complete with camera mounts, is "known" in the industry but the owner refuses to show/sell/let anyone see the car.

No Sorn is only if you taxed your car after 2000ish I believe if it has not been taxed before the date sorn came in, it does not have to be sorned as not on their system. If that makes sense. NOt sure that's right. My Griff is an 03/99 and gets SORNed, I read that as meaning it is taxed to March 2011. Sorn came into effect 31st Jan 1998 (Not 200ish) any vehicle not taxed at any time between 1998 and 2010 will come up as Sorn not due. There thats a better explanation. So this car has been there prior to 1998 which means a minimum of 13 years sat up.

There was a profile of a serious weirdo in Germany in Practical Classics a few months back who buys cars with the intention of leaving them to rot as some kind of big art installation/statement. There are some seriously desirable classics in his 'graveyard' too - Merc SLs, Citroen Traction Avants etc - that he just left there with the intention of watching them rot. Curious, but IMO painful.

This is part of the 'Memorial' at Oradour sur Glane but if they deteriorate at the rate they are, what's going to be there in the future?

That countach is a write-off in an insurance yard. You can buy bits of it from Eurospares.
