I think we've got a few spots in common. You said you'd seen the maroon convertible Beetle in Selsdon (no longer there) that I posted ages ago, and I think you posted a photo of a garden full of '80s B.M.W.s that's a few roads away from me.
Garden full if 80's bmw's? Have they been posted before? Where abouts are they?

Any chance of a picture?
They're somewhere in the middle of this thread. I fancy a look through, so I'll see if I can find them.

Here they are: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Looking on the next page, I've also got photos from the Dolomite/Daimler garden and I've seen the silver Merc many times, although the gate to the SPitfire and 124s is usually locked: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Thanks MrHorsepower for finding the page with my multiple pictures on.

My photobucket wouldn't work yesterday and I gave up looking for them on this thread.

BTW the picture with the Golf MK2 and Mini are about 1/2 mile from the Escort in Knockholt but quite

difficult to see due to foliage obscuring.

And the TVR wedge pictured was subsequently rescued by the wedge section of PH and was found to be the 2nd

chassis built iirc.

Triumph saloon by 2slo7, on Flickr

A Triumph saloon gradually rotting away in a village in Co Durham. It's been in the same place for at least 10 years that I know of, maybe more. Not sure if this one's a 2000 or a 2.5 P.I., I have good memories of the latter as an uncle of mine owned one in the 1970s. Basically a TR6 engine IIRC and it had a decent turn of speed for a saloon.

^Those were quite a luxurious car in their day, but at non-luxury money. And SOOO smooth!

I'd have said Triumph was our BMW and Rover our Mercedes, while Jaguar was our Maserati. Unfortunately, while the Triumph straight six was a nice enough engine (would have been even better with a Dolly Sprint-derived OHC head by Spen King...), the Adwest Marles Varamatic power steering fitted to at least the high-end variants of the 2000/2500/2.5PI family was nothing like as well set-up in the Triumph as it was in the Rover P6, lacking feel and getting very light at speed, whereas in the Rover, it got lighter the slower you went while being pretty heavy at high speed, giving excellent stability on the motorway. I've an idea the injection fitted to 2.5PI models was also troublesome.

Mind you, I did encounter (within the last few years) a 2000 Estate running a highly modified 4-litre TVR AJP-6 and, I think, a BMW steering setup. That was a very nice-looking car, sounded amazing, from an angry loping chunter of an idle to an unhinged wail at full chat. Didn't half shift either!

Its a 2000.
My first attempt at tuning was on a 2500S, in Inca Yellow, stage 2 head twin HS8 SUs TR6 cam, rolling road tuned at auto technics in Luton back in 1980, made 127 BHP iirc, the same as a Dolly Sprint, it went well, with man box/OD, but drank like Olly Reedbiggrin
Fitted a Sprint front spoiler, and wider lower profile tyres to the standard Stag alloys. Great car.

Is it? Thought they were OHV. Seem to recall those were quite troublesome.

That's in Toft Hill, at the side of the A68. I've been driving past the thing since I fist came to the North East, over 15 years and such a shame.

Correct. I can't avoid looking at it as I pass there a couple of times a week. I bet the neighbours love seeing it as the view from their front windows frown

They didn't use 4-valve-per-cylinder heads like the Dolly Sprint, though, did they? What was the issue with those engines (I forget)?
