He didn't argue and the pleasure of driving across six counties in foul weather in search of the man rumoured to have a stock of original giglen pins and larfen shafts was denied him.
That's where the mistakes are made; Old Man Marston insisted on ground and polished frendle pins, plain old drawn wire giglen pins were for slatternly and wastrel makers like Brough Superior and HRD.

Has this been posted on here before? East London car park, and clearly been sitting there for quite some time (at least 6 months since I first saw it). Also a classic Porsche and an old Merc in the same car park, also seemingly just rotting away.

Don't know much about Esprits, except that I love the look of them, especially the late V8s like this, and particularly in primary colours.

Is this off Brick Lane ?

Tried blowing up pic to read sign in background but no go.
Thanks to the member who confirmed this.

I've been in there too ,saw the Mercedes mentioned but

was unable to stop my lorry for pics.....thumbup

Yes, sorry was away, but that is off Brick Lane - I'm going to a meeting there tomorrow so I'll try and get more pics, though my client says he saw a few blokes around the Lotus with jump leads this morning - nobody here was it?!?

The Lotus was there in the summer when I used the car park. The merc is a scabby W123 estate from memory - nothing to loose too much sleep over.

Yes, it was advertised, to see if there is any interest out there in it.

But I haven't sold it yet, as it's a work in progress.biggrin

I've rebuilt the exhaust, overhauled the brakes, and it's now taxed, MOT'd and insured.

Two tyres arrived for it today, so I hope to be using it by the weekend.

The simple fact is I don't have the space, or the funds to keep every car I buy!

I've got a fare old collection of cars, tucked away for a rainy day, and my friends know I'll buy any good/bad/random/rare/sh*te car, as long as it isn't too modern and is a little bit interesting.

Because of that, I get a lot of phone calls/emails/texts saying XYZ has been found, and I can't help myself.rotate

How many cars have you bought this year?

And are you going to keep them all, or maybe move one or two on and try something else?

If I keep this, I'll have a nice, rare Alpine GTA in the collection.

If I sell it, I've got the chance of an E34 M5, Audi UR Quattro, Merc 320CE, all "barn finds".

I used to want to keep everything, but I simply can't.

So now I want to have a massive list of cars that I have owned!
I can see your point. i don't think i do count on the how many cars...I have 9 at the moment. 7 running and insured, 2 projects. Bought 4 this year, sold 1. My worst year yet. And yes, i'm single, a wife would have killed me already smile
All of them are somehow rare or special (bar the elctric renault which does commuting duties). But I'm lucky enough to have a big warehouse for work, and i can tuck all the cars in a corner.

But yeah, again, i see your point, i only saw the coincidence of your post + the for sale ad and thought about an "opportunistic" buy, but it wasn;t, and I was wrong, so sorry for the thread drift and my first post. cheers

Why oh why do we do this?

A friend of a friend passed away and as I have a "bit" of a reputation regarding old cars, and Saabs in particular, I was told to go and see the widow, as he had a few Saab parts she wanted to clear. This I duly did this and acquired a van full of bits.

In conversation, the subject of her late husbands latest project came up. This:

[URL=http://smg.photobucket.com/user/TFatC/media/Scrapping/april%2013%20001_zpsbibgjmdi.jpg.html][/URL

Turned out she had contacted the marque specialist, but due to the car being in Aberdeen, it was deemed to far to fetch. She had agreed to sell the specialist the van full of parts (engines, gearboxes etc) and the car was going to go to scrap. Being the soft touch I am, I agreed to buy the lot for the agreed price plus scrap value, in the hope I could find someone to save it.

Now, I have no interest in Lancias, I have no room at home and the car has been dry stored for years. Whilst being a major project, it is very saveable, or at least has loads of spare parts that are hard to find.

So I am out of pocket, cannot get into my workshop shed for all the spares, and the car is blocking the entrance to my friends barn so it is still dry. Just got to hope I can find someone as mad (stupid?) as me to give it a new home.

That is a car I would love to save but it would take serious changes to get it past the dream stage with so many other cars at home and no dry storage which that definitely needs. I probably can't do anything about it at the moment but if you felt like messaging me with the price you would want I can at least try to figure some man maths!

TFatC, my wife's Lancia-collecting cousin in Suffolk (who also has a Citroen DS, a Traction Avant and some other interesting stuff) has been alerted via my son's Facebook... hopefully I'll hear something from him... if he can't take it, I bet he'll know someone who will...

if someone in suffolk wants to take up the challenge, i can offer the space, and most likely can find a transport method. Happy to help. It is slightly beyond my capabilities or I'll buy. Or happy to go half if someone knows how to do it!

Brilliant!

And it would have been a tragedy if it was scrapped.

I'd be interestedwhistle

So went over to Brick Lane again and the Porsche is still there - apparently registered in 1990 though (according to my app on my iPhone) - presumably that indicates an import or that it's a replica?

More googling shows it's been there for four or five years and hasn't moved - if it's the real deal it's a black 356D. Will stick a photo up if I get a chance tomorrow.

Got talking to the owner of this French barge today. Failed it's MOT needing welding a while back. He also had a saloon 505 gti parked next to it that he sold for banger racing !!!!! In the garage behind is an A35 and GT6 mk3 which I am trying to pry from him smile

Here's the 356 in the same car park as the Esprit I posted earlier (the Merc is an old W123 estate, and now in terrible shape). The reg is "CSK 381" - the app on my phone says registered in November 1990, and lists the make as 'Porsche' - so is it a replica, or the real deal? If it's the real deal it's worth a fair bit, no?
