Funny seeing that A50 next to a modern car and described as the small black car, in its day that would have been a reasonably medium sized car.

Bizarrely, my love of the MkI Triumph 2000 didn't transfer itself to the MkII. That just leaves me cold.

They tried to make the front end look like the Stag.

and a strong contender for the 'car most likely to be an unreliable money pit' award by all accounts

there's one near me that appears to move regularly though

Thanks, Rich. To my eye, the across-the-range treatment featured on the MkII 2000 and 2.5PI only really suited the Stag. The Spitfire and particularly the GT6 suffered badly.

Mk2 is much more handsome to me, but the steering was awful - very light and devoid of feel at all speeds. Bizarrely, the same steering system in my Rover was vastly better.

I thought the Spitfire and GT6 adopted the rear end style from the 2000 which was similar on the Mk1 and 2, although much more akin to the Stag version which was lower to better suit a sporting car.

I also prefer the later rear end on the Spitfire/GT6...

I was referring to the Stag and MK2 in shot with the same style front ends I like the MK2 and owned a late Stag many moons ago

Having owned a couple of Mk2 Saloons plus a Mk1, I have to say I love the exterior and dashboard styling of the Mk1. So sixties, a bit more sporty / raw.
But then again I also love the Mk2 which looks a very different car, more elegant and smoother. Michelotti did a great thing updating the Mk1.

So, both very fine cars which I find hard to compare. Then again it is always wrong to compare cars of different generations.

Have to say a prefer both later innsbruck saloons and Spitfire/GT6 styling, but then with 2x Mk2 2.5PIs (one of which I keep expecting to pop up in this thread) and a MkIV Spitfire to my name I'm probably biased. ^_^

The 1975 on, front end was more Stag with the 4 bar front grille. And in "S" form was the best 2000/2500 made.

Cool looking little car, I used to think these were rather bland but they've aged well.

Shame the 2000 didn't also get the higher bumper-mounted registration plate of the Stag - would have improved the front end looks no end.

I have had all the variations of 2000/2.5 in my time, and in my opinion the 'S' version wasn't a patch on the mk1 2.5 PI.
In fact, the S model with its inferior build quality, increased ride height, and tendency to rot before your very eyes
made it one of the worst models they produced...
