The Xantia was a significant cut above the Vectras, Mondeos etc - a really nice-looking, well-engineered car that, to be honest, handled better than my E46 318i and rode vastly better, had more kit and better seats for less money too. I would argue in favour of its being a modern classic.
My Dad had a couple of Xantias, both unreliable POSs in comparison with the two BXs he had prior to that. In fact after decades of French car ownership (Citroen/Renault) it was the Xantia that convinced him to get a Toyota, and he hasn't looked back.MarshPhantom said:

I tend to judge cars on what they're like when they're working properly. If they reward, I'm prepared to put up with more pain than most. I gave my Rover a new gearbox, and my E39 520i a new engine, when the existing units failed. Neither car was/is worth anything much, but their sentimental value to me makes it worth spending out on them. The Xantia was a car with personality and capability in equal measure, especially in V6 Activa form. Sure, they won't be as reliable as an Avensis - but if you buy an Avensis, you're then stuck with the reality that you're driving a bloody Avensis...Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
