I would describe it as agricultural, mechanical and extremely loud. You need Iron man muscles with the clutch and the gear change is laboured but it is a hoot to drive short distances and the sound is hard to beat.

If I was to use one word to sum it up...........awesome
I'd love to read a lot more about this, any chance of a Readers' Ride thread?
The request echoed here too, the 6R4 is a car that truly intrigues me, please tell us more

Nice, I bought a 250CE back when I was 19 in 1993 and held on to it until 2013 (even though I moved to the US in 2000). It sat outside my fathers house waiting for me to come back until a neighbor called and asked to use it for parts to restore his. Apparently after I agreed, all he did was jump the battery, air the tires and he was able to drive it.

I now own an Italian spec 1972 280CE with a A/C and a 4 speed waiting to be restored. It has a little rust on the sills but not a bad car. Always love seeing /8 coupes get some love.

There are many legitimate criticisms of the Metro but handling isn't one of them; how old were the tyres? My brother had a MG Metro in the early 90s and it stuck to the road like st to a blanket.
I really can't get me head around all the love for the Metro, has the passing of time dulled people's senses? It was an underdeveloped piece of st. My first company car back in 1984 was a basic Metro City which had zero redeeming features and my wife's MG Metro promised much and delivered very little.

I suppose in the end everything becomes a classic!
I had a black MG Metro back in the 90's. It was fine, no service hassles, great sound with a bit more timing advance, ram pipe and big bore exhaust, and it was great fun on the twisty 'B' roads with its revvy motor and good handling probably akin to an original Cooper from back in the day. Quite miss it actually and it deserves it place as much as any classic car.

Lots of nice cars!
Love the GTE, saw a GTC a while back and had forgot how much I like them.

Don't mind a metro either, never had one but think they deserve to be respected for what they are.

In the middle of fiddling with my B, carbs are currently in pieces on the bench but it should be running again soon (out of use since 1989 I think), Federal-spec test car.

Are there any ex-MG people in these parts, who might remember the old girl in the late 1970s?

That should be worth something extra over a standard one. Interesting, expecially the steering wheel ( looks like a Montego or something!).

Aye I think it's ex-SD1, an entry in the book from Jan '79 refers to the fitment of a "safety" steering wheel, but no mention of the source.

That's a dilemma and a half....

1. Keep the wheel - it's part of the cars history
2. Ditch the wheel and fit a Mota Lita

1. Is a no brainer. Why change it? Originality is everything.
