Cheers, the Mexico is lovely and I do feel very lucky indeed to have it, although after it blew it's fuse on the interior fan which after much dismantling is due to a seized bearing on the fan motor, it's specialness was wearing a little thin last night!

My Pair.
Totally love the Merc. Is it really a "V"? It looks like the later model.
Thanks! Yup, V reg, build '79. one of the last before the facelift.
That's my confusion. '79 is prefacelift yet it has the headrests from the facelift cars... Beautiful colour though - orient red?
How interesting. The car is totally standard, and (as far as I know) has had nothing changed or replaced so I would be surprised if it has non standard interior. What was the difference with the earlier head rests?
It is a lovely colour, yes Orient red. Or at least, it was Orient red 35 years ago. Now it is sadly 35 year faded Orient red which makes colour matching impossible!

Mrs B's surprise 50th birthday present. Built totally in secret over a period of seventeen months. I handed her the keys last Thursday. She still can't quite believe it. An ivory Fiat 500 has been her dream car since she first set eyes upon one back in the early seventies during camping holidays in France with her family. smile

From this:

To this:

New Fiat 126 engine & box, disk brakes, LHD to RHD conversion, full rewire, full leather interior, refurbished suspension, full respray, new sunroof, classic style stereo, bumper over-riders, new lights all around, new carpets, new mirrors. In fact, only the chassis and most of the body panels are from the original, red car. Everything else has been upgraded or refurbed.

Originally, I just wanted to give it a wash. hehe

Room for two wheels?

The old man has always wanted a Brough Superior. So, in his mid seventies we've finally talked him into taking the plunge! It's a 1938 (so one of the last) Matchless engined SS80. They made 100 Matchless engined SS80s in 1938, of a total of 460 made between 1935 and 1940.

Such a lovely thing. I've always been slightly sceptical about their price, but having seen the thing it just looks luxurious! For those that aren't so into bikes, Brough claimed their bikes to be the "Rolls Royce of Motorcycles" in the 1920s. Rolls Royce got the hump, until they visited the works and looked at the bikes and when they left, they gave their blessing to use that phrase.

srob - Wonderful, and the very best of luck to dad, I'd love a Brough - a mate's uncle had a couple many moons back and I've never forgotten the impact they had. I think you saw the piccy of the Brough combo that I posted recently, the old boy who owned that was still enjoying it and I'd hazard a guess he may have had a few years on your dad.

My mates seem to think it's an unfinished project. It goes to the trimmer in the next week for a full interior then I'll see what I can do to add more carbs to the straight 8.
It has a lovely patina. You'd have to paint it in this country though, I suspect the rust would very soon get out of hand if you didn't. Patina like this is probably dry climate only!

What is it, by the way. I thought it was a Plymouth, but I didn't see one the same on Google Images, so must be wrong.
It's a 46 Buick Straight 8 that is Holden dealer badged. The rust was out of hand on the chasssis and under the panels. I must have welded in about 20 patches but it's fairly solid now with no obvious holes. My workshop is in the bush where it's dry but I live on the beach so if I painted it I'd only be wasting my time. It's never been painted and I'll leave it that way and I'll just wipe it down with some phosphoric acid to preserve the look.

Came with all the dealer paperwork and complimentry demister wipers. Unused.

The '80 model year had a few very subtle changes. Some mechanical (the 200 power output went from 90 something to 109bhp), but you can tell visually as the later car had smaller headrests, a smooth steering wheel boss and smaller door lock plungers...

I know about these things as my dad bought a W123 200 back in '81 - it was on the cusp of the change so he and I pored over every brochure, price list and magazine article at the time to inform ourselves of what was what!!

Thanks for that...very interesting! Pretty sure mine has both the bigger head rests, and the smooth steering wheel. I can only assume then that my car is either anomaly, or just somehow a '79 model that slipped through the net. It is definitely a '79...at least lg book confirms it, so I don't know.

That's a thing of wonder.

There's one on Ebay at the moment. (Although it is more an ad for an upcoming auction.)

3.2 on 348 wheels. The discerning choice.

Really should have kept it.
