The Great Wall's did, and Mahindra's and Tata's too, there are many zero scoring NCAP cars (even Renaults and Hyundai's). It is ironic that with all the advances in design and technology, the Chinese and the Indians churn out zero star cars, when even the poor little Rover 100 was at least scoring 1 star (along with dozens of others) twenty years ago in a near forty year old design.

I'm quite curious to know how the chinese manage to 'be inspired by' an inherently safe design and yet still manage to make something that weighs two tons so unsafe. I'd have thought that weight alone would imply some strength.
I'd be curious as to why they make it into the EU market in the first place given they are clearly below acceptable safety standards.bertie said:

No, but the premise/assertion was that the Rover 100 was the worst performer pre 2009, which it wasn't. bertie said:
a Metro which was still poor compared to similar cars of it's time.
Well, if NCAP was around in the eighties, we'd be able to see how it compared to similar cars of its time, but its competitors were all long discontinued way before NCAP turned up and so we can't compare. The Rover 100 scraped in on NCAP tests only because the poor thing had soldiered on well past its sell by date (NCAP came in 1996, Rover 100 was discontinued in 1997). Instead of rubbishing the car because it only scored 1 star in its twilight years as a reproduction antique in a newly introduced test against modern cars, surely we should be expressing surprise that it did so well?

Context is everything though, in 1997 it scored about the same as the BMW 3 series and Saab 900, I think it was 1 or 1.5 stars. Most stuff was poor when NCAP came in.
The SAAB 900 was one of the safest cars you could buy, the Metro certainly wasn't.
I think folks should look at the full list of NCAP results for 1996/97, as I said earlier, most stuff was poor, so why single out an old Metro when it just shared space at the bottom with cars who's almost equally poor performance is surely more worthy of comment when you consider what brand and what generation they were.

o take it up with NCAP, they gave it 1.5 stars in the same year they gave 1 star to the Rover 100.

I only said I thought it was the worst ever, I'm not precious over it.I think folks should look at the full list of NCAP results for 1996/97, as I said earlier, most stuff was poor, so why single out an old Metro when it just shared space at the bottom with cars who's equally poor performance is surely more worthy of comment?
As I said, I'm sure my 308 would perform terribly too, but I see the pluses of that which I don't with a Metro, or an old Firsta...etc

Yuk...Just kidding. I think that this iteration of the 308 is one a high points of art in engineering, up with the Spitfire, Concorde, the Adams T6, the J Class yacht etc. IMO it's the nicest looking car ever made, actually. Like perfect from every angle.
I ought to have a go in one but I fear driving wouldn't be as nice as looking at – never meet your heroes and all that.

A properly sorted 308 is great fun actually. Engaging but not demanding, predictable handling, and they sound lovely. Of course, you've got to be a bit of a tart to own one Just kidding. They're great fun to drive, feel really friendly and everyone seems to love it, obviously cars have come a long way in the last 30 years mind!
Here's it's sleeping partner.....575 Manual...something very special about a Ferrari V12 with a manual box.
I've driven a 308.
It was when I was a mechanic and it was owned by a local hair salon owner who was friends with the
workshop foreman.
He swopped his Datsun 260Z Samurai for it.
I didn't thrash it as I was scared of binning it and it was a long time ago,1980s, so don't really remember
what it was like.....
