Phil,
It was not dipped, but the panels that weren't replaced were taken back to bare metal. The whole front end was replaced, most of the floorpan and all the cills, inner and outer, yet when it went in there were only the tiniest ripples under the paint that gave anything away. Costs climbed beyond the original £5k quote quite quickly after the paint was stripped back.... as they do!
Tnx Mark,

Just thinking about doing similar to one of mine although I don't think I need any new panel work.

Nice thing, did you build it?

How come it's up for sale?

yes i built it but had Gardner Douglas do the bodywork so its as good as their turnkey cars. its time for a couple of projects and i've done enough trackdays in various cars over the years that its not getting much use. it can be made road legal and maybe the new owner will want to, some of the GD owners do road drive theirs.

My uncle had one identical to yours, although his had originally been silver before black respray, not sure when he sold but must have been early 21st Century I guess.

1964, 3.8, All synchro close ratio box, 75K miles, XJ6 rack conversion, Exported to California when 6 months old, Structurally perfect, Original sills, Floors, Jacking points etc, Needs a bit of cosmetic sprucing up now.

Bought unseen on Ebay, Very late 2.8 S1 regd May 73, Took a punt as could get back more than i paid for it in bits, Was buried in a garage for 24 years, When it turned up on the beavertail i nearly had a heart attack! Better than a zierbarted S1 i restored 25yrs ago, 95% rot free with a gorgeous interior, 3 owners who all knew each other, 59K miles, It runs sweet as, Shame its a 2.8 auto!

Was going to ask the same question.
Incidentally I know nothing about Jap cars, what is it?

The original (A20 series) Toyota Celica. It looks great in black, but usually came in awful 1970's yellow and beige colours with cheap looking go faster stripes and naff wheels.
