The sad thing is, is that the current climate under this government makes this sort of pious self-righteous pr1ck feel justified in acting that way.

This quiet running nearly killed me.....

Sunday afternoon....no pedestrians, no traffic, crossed the road near a T junction and this Prius turns left into my road.....

Nearly filled me pants......

This means you can literally sneak up on cyclists then give them a quick blast on the horn and make them wobble all over they place

Wonderful, how responsible of you.

quite, if you did that to me when I was on my bike I would kick the **** out of your car as you went past, then blame it on the 'wobble' that you caused me to do, then ride off and leave you with a nice repair bill.

Caaaaalm Down

My post was supposed to be tongue in cheek, but it the smilee didn't help so sorry if it was taken as a serious post. Most people know my sense of humour by now. The whole point I was trying to make was that the so called 'green car' that is aimed at the environmentalsts and the like, is actually more expensive to maintain in the long run, and has serious safety aspects due to its 'silent running' capabilities. I am a petrol head of the highest order, and no way would I drive something which has lentilist roots and is against the grain of the 'spirit of the drive'.

And Zebedee.. if you ever damaged my cars in the manner you described you may find yourself complete with bike going underneath my car in a 'sorry mate didn't see you' situation. So what sort of car driver are you, and what sort of person does that to some one elses car while on a bike? and you wonder why cyclists have a bad name on PH? For the record I was 'Peacemaker' when it all went off on Cycling plus - I was trying to calm down the sitation, much as I hate lycra clad arseholes with their mightier than thou attitude.

no probs ultimasimon, should have spotted the smiley!

As a general rule of thumb, I agree that damage to any car is absolutely out of order, but if someone uses their car as a weapon in order to intimidate me or threaten me or push me off the road when I am on the bike, its fair game I am afraid.

I do a fair bit of cycling, and as a cyclist you are pretty vulnerable, and really looking behind you isn't an option very often as you go though cities, the motorist has a responsibility to wait until it is safe to pass a cyclist - I manage it when I am driving. As for using the horn when approaching in a silent car - if it was used 10-15m back fair enough, if it was used immediately behind the cyclist with an intention to cause alarm, how stupid must a driver be to fail to anticipate that he is more likely to end up with a cyclist and bike spread across his bonnet than a grin spreading across his face.

I didn't know there was a general anti-cycling sentiment on pistonheads, which surprises me, seeing as we are all supposed to be good considerate drivers who use the potential of our cars in a responsible way.

So you're saying you are so unobservant whilst riding your bike that you wouldn't notice a car approaching behind you?

haven't got eyes in the back of my head, no and I don't think specsavers sell extra eyes, thanks all the same - and I haven't got stupid mirrors either because it is a cross country mountain bike. I stay off the road when I can, but when I am on it, I expect and deserve the same courtesy that I give other road users, whether they are on a horse, bike, on foot or whatever.
