get an "egg piercer" - a little spike that makes a hole in the shell, no more cracked eggs

boiling eggs... timing depends on if you keep them in the fridge or not (parents dont, they take 2.5 - 3 mins, the wife does, they take 4ish)

Oh - and when you start eating them, take the top 1/3rd off both eggs at the same time, or the heat will continue to cook the second egg till you have finished the first...

My mum always used to say that an egg continues to cook after you've taken it out the water. So, bash them both on the head to break the shell when you take them out, then peel and slice the first, eat, then peel and slice the second, which will still be warm, but not hard.

Works for me

Is that from when Jack fell down the hill and they mended his head?

yesThe shell acts line a pressure cooker, so the answer to the OPs question is to crack the shells as you remove them from the pan.
