What dog is this?
Discussion
In a move completely uncharacteristic of my mother, this morning she took in a stray dog that was running around a main road. It looks well looked after and it's very friendly and playful, she's notified the police and RSPCA and plans to put some flyers up although trying to leave them as ambiguous as possible so some pikey doesn't think "hmm, i'll have that".
anyway, anyone have any ideas what sort of dog it is? Because it looks more like a wolf

It's just a funkily coloured Collie isn't it?
I think so. The muzzle looks too long to be a Mamalute to me, and the ears look different, more collie cross to me.
Yeah, it's definitely a collie cross and not pure malamute, but the markings are almost certainly malamute.

Is it unique? Are we going to have scumbags trying to get their hands on it?
I'm not sure about desirability, they're rather thin on the ground in the UK as far as I know, Wikipedia may have more answers:

This site may also be of use:

Also something to consider (although this probably only applies to the US):

Funny quote about malamutes from wiki "While they may bark like other dog breeds, Malamutes normally tend to "talk" by vocalizing a "woo woo" sound (the characteristic vocalizations of Chewbacca in the Star Wars films are based upon a Malamute named Indiana, once owned by George Lucas)." you have your very own wookie

Word of caution...
Last time I rescued a dog, it attached itself to my face with its teeth...
It was only a little white yappy thing, but I ended up spending 18 hours in A&E over a week, as they tried to reduce the size of my my head. Looked like a bloody alien (me, not the dog)....

I've always been cautious of dogs myself. This one is extremely playful although dogs can turn quite easily I suppose.
I've just noticed in the photo how clean it's teeth are. I think this was one well looked after dog, I wonder how it got loose.

"Malamutes are sometimes downright insubordinate toward their human handlers and may ignore commands, particularly when young."
that explains a lot
