Maybe he doesn't sell many tickets.

I have managed to avoid all of this charade for the whole weekend so far.

I am truly, truly fed up with these high living, hedonisting life style, drug addled, excessive, ego-trippers telling ME that I have to rein back my lifestyle to save the planet.

How dare they.

At least the BBC didn't cut them off mid-track like they did with the Beastie Boys. First time on prime time telly for years, and they cut them to go look at Shakira...

Baddiel also said something along the lines of 'mankind always needs the threat of some kind of apolocolyptic disaster - in the cold war the world was going to end, now thats over we need something to fill the void and we now have climate change - rolls eyes'. Sensible comment but cut off to go to an interview with fern cotton and a tree (or something).

But Eric, you're missing the point, this is to raise awareness and as Lord Terence Stamp said, "The biggest threat to the planet today is global warming" I mean...in the face of such nuggets of wisdom how can you remain so cynical.
Sir Al Gore himself said that he offsets his carbon footprint with "carbon offsets" which are payments to an alternative energy development company, the fact that he is part owner of the company shouldn't give cause for scepticism should it?
For me it was summed up perfectly by Earl Jonathon Ross who said it would be lovely if someone came on stage dressed up as a planet earth type globe with a big bandage to symbolise the damaged world. Ok so the earth is not damaged in the slightest and the fact the earth will carry on in some shape or form long after we have gone doesn't matter does it? it's the fact we are aware..of ...something...that...matters....surely

A couple of people got a helicopter from local airfield (Breighton) down to the Live Earth Gig. But it was a big huge Sikorsky helicopter, with only 2 people on board.

I had to laugh at that.

I think cancelling an already scheduled concert to conserve power would have raised more awareness and gained more respect, personally.

yes

Even better - hold a series of power sapping energy dissipating carbon dioxide emitting pop festivals - to show it won't make a gnat's todger's difference.

Hang on, Al Gore just did it...damn hehe

I suppose all the 'artists' will be travelling in on their sail boats while their equipment and roadies will be using the canals for transport and the gazzillion treehuggers that watch this goddarn awful noisefest will be using solar powered televisions.
All the litter produced at the concert will be left to rot down naturally after the audience have left Wembley on their bicycles.

Load. Of. Tosh.
They explained that on the Beeb radio a couple of days ago, that they are all using 'green' fuel, biofuels, smaller cars etc etc

Still a load of absolute tosh and garbage, purely to earn a few quid and get a bit more 'green' publicity for themselves. The planet don't need saving, the planets doing okay.......

That would have been really good. They could have hyped the whole thing up in advance, just the same as they have done, gone all the way down the line with it. Then announced a week ago to the whole world that it was an eleborate hoax, and point out how really stupid it would have been to have had all these worldwide mass pollution events in the name of the environment.

Once more I did my bit to change the climate. Another 150 miles of foot-to-the-floor V8 driving. Wait a sec, that's not what they meant...
