I'm getting a 'seam' put in, in a straight line from my waistband to my armpit.
Dare I say it, you may regret that one later on in lifeThe area you're thinking of will hurt on the bone, but from the sounds of it you're not going to have a lot of "colouring in"
I'd just have a rethink that you really do want that tattoo as it'll be hard to cover up with something else if you change your mind in 10 years

I have 4, 3 on my arms were done 37 years ago when i was a young (too young) 15 year old, and yes i know you must be 15 but i was in the Navy and as we know all sailors have them, well nearly all. The 4th i had done only 3 months ago, what posessed me i shall never know. I had forgotten how painful they were, it lasted 4 hours and i was breaking into cold sweats during the "needle bit". As soon as the tattooist started it all came flooding back, it feels like someone dragging a blunt razor blade across your skin slowly, as someone said earlier it affects different people in different ways. Dont get me wrong, im pleased i had it done, now, dont think i will get any more done, at least not in the next 37 years
I got 3.. sort of 4
1 on top of each arm/shoulder (tho right arm is 1 that got expanded, so ya might call it 2) and one on my right calf.
Yeah it hurts but it's ok if you dont get into a mindset of ' oh my god this hurts and ive got 2 more hours of this pain i dont think i can take it...'
I find it's best if you have something to do, a chatty tatooist or a pal there to take the mick, it all helps pass the time. Also, make sure you've eaten before hand... my pal James is hard as nails and he passed out in the chair because he'd not had food all day. Can of coke n Mars bar soon put him right.

Still agreeing here, avoid all the multi coloured ones as they look awful to start with.
I have had mine designed for me and then applied using freehand- but I travel 150 miles to go to a decent artist- there are a lot of crap ones out there so search out a good one and ask for recommendations as you would with any major purchase. It may not be a costly thing to have done but it is for life so be very careful.
Also think about how it looks to others, I am a decent bloke but people do look at your tattoos and make a judgement- I wear T shirts to work and mine does show- and you see people looking at it all the time.
I think you are rushing into this personally. But that is all IMHo

Who's got em then?
I've got 2, one between my shoulders, and another that covers most of my backcronk-flakes said:
I plan on getting one a week on Saturday in Reading. Almost looking forward to it, I'm intrigued as to how much its going to hurt, especially since I'm getting a 'seam' put in, in a straight line from my waistband to my armpit.
It will be rather sore. Under your arm and down your sides tends to hurt the most, along with any fleshy parts of your body. Mine goes down the back of my legs and hurt like hell, i found parts of my back and over my collarbone weren't too bad, more uncomfortable than sorecronk-flakes said:
Also heard from a colleague that you can't get the area wet for a week or so!? Any truth to this as I'm getting it 4 days before my 19th birthday and would be upset if I can't shower!
Utter crap, when it's done it bleeds, so you need to go home and shower asap, you will need to put either savlon or bespanthan (sp?) (it's a nappy rash cream, i found it worked better than savlon with less scabs and itchness) on it a couple of times a day after a shower for about 2 weeks, helps it heal. Depending on the size and where it is be prepared to end up stuck to the bed when you wake up. It's not a nice feeling peeling yourself off the bed in the morning!!!How sore it is depends on what your pain threshold is like but i took some painkillers before i went it, it doesn't stop it hurting but it does dull the pain a bit. As for still wanting it in a few years time, i had my first one 5 years ago and my second is almost finished, got about another 6 hours left to get it done. I don't regret either of them, and typically forget they are there most of the time.
If you want it, get it. Ignore what anybody else says, at the end of the day it's your body and you can do whatever the hell you like with it!
Don't get one because you can get something you want, find some art work that you acn look at for weeks and weeks on end and still think it is amazing.
If you pick one from the shop then do the same go back for weeks and weeks and still see if that one stands out more than any other.
If you still love it after weeks of visiting then it's the one for you and you won;t get sick of it.
