EDIT: Probably not the best way of putting it...

But as you say, I will probably regret it in a few years, but whats the point in holding off on something for fear of years to come?

for me tattos should at least mean something to you on a personal level, doesnt matter what it means really, but haveing something that will last should at least have something you can say 'i got this done for x reason' rather than, i liked it when i got it done...

ive got 2 phrases that a friend stranslated into italian for me that i will have tatto'd at the end of september, im trying to think of a border design for it atm, but will probably only get one done at first, but the translations are for all the people that i have lost over the last few years, alot of very close familly and friends, and i want something that shows that they will never be forgotten

what ever you do, know what tattoo you are having before you go.

If not, you will end up just walking in and choosing any old tattoo if you can't find one your really really like - just for the sake of having a tat.

I'm having one covered up at the mo and found a design from http://www.tattoofinder.com/

worth spending a couple of hours finding the one that floats your boat!

Thing is, I really don't have much respect for my body on a whole (just the face, no one touches the face... wink), it gets thrown around, burnt, prodded and scathed on a regular basis (the office is a tough environment)

I have my PH name on my right shoulder paperbag and a couple of other tattoos on my arms, they don't really hurt, more of a feeling of something scraping your skin.

I have a tattoo of George Monbiot on my left arm.

Unfortunately, the tattoist was a bit deaf...
....I had actually asked for an anchor.

wink

I've got a few. Depending where you get them they don't really hurt much. As a general rule of thumb the skinnier you are the more they'll hurt. For us well padded folk they're not that bad.
The outline you tend to feel the most. Most people tend to assosciate the feeling of getting outlining done with a prolonged cat-scratch, wheras the colouring/filling isn't as bad.

I wouldn't get one for the sake of it in retrospect, but if there's something you like that you're sure you'll like for a while go for it. Seen as a bit common by many folks, especially around here, but some of us like them smile

As someone who dabbled with tattoos and tattooing for a short while, I have nothing at all against them providing that they are what you want and not something you want everyone else to think is cool and as long as they're a good design and not some woman spanning down your inner arm with your armpit representing her tufty

I have a few tats, mostly ones that I have designed for myself with only 2 shop bought pre designed ones...my only regrets are that my equipment broke down before I had a chance to complete one of them and I was too skint to have it repaired and Ive got one or two that I want covered up

Other than that Im more than happy with the ink I have and I do plan to have more, but nothing ridiculous

Ive been planning a couple of tribal style coverups and extensions on both arms, I want Mrs Jagds name arking accross my shoulders in Olde English (not the Cider!) and the rest re-touching/colouring smile

I'm not sure she'll appreciate the sentiment of having her name wrote across your back in sheepdogs mate.

I seem to be with Tonker (amongst others) on this one.

I guess I am quite old fashioned, but I've never seen the attraction in Tattoos. On a girl they shout Tramp! and on a man bloke they look a bit to Sailor esq IMO.

Oh and one more thing, now that I'm in my mid twenties, I know plenty of people who regret their tattoos that were 'such a brilliant idea' when they were 18...

Youth, as they say, is wasted on the young smile
