Tou may have seen recent press reports about the latest sorry events at Headley Court, the armed forces rehabilitation centre in Surrey.

Two soldiers, both amputees, were taken to the local public swimming pool as part of their rehabilitation. A lane of the pool was roped off so that they could do lengths (Shamingly, Headley court has no pool long enough for this).

One woman in her thirties complained that they should not have part of the pool closed for them when "She had paid and they hadn't" and another complained that the sight of two men with amputated limbs might scare her children. When the sport centre refused their request to eject the two servicemen and their instructor, the women became so abusive to the servicemen that their instructor ended their training session for fear of violence.

Whatever one thinks of the merits of our two current deployments, this is simply outrageous.

Well done to the sports centre for standing their ground on it. Not often you hear of that happening.

Stupid bint, does she not realise that without brave people like these service men, she would be living in a much different (and no doubt unpleasant) country. Should have held her head under!

Give her money back, show her the door and ban her. Absolutely unforgivable IMO.

There's nothing you can say is there?

Unfortunately today's middle-class housewife is a completely brain dead moron who lives in a fluffy little world of privately delivered supermarket shopping, nannies and gardeners.

Show them the real world of people who've suffered in the name of this country and they go into meltdown as their single cell brains struggle to comprehend the confusing message.

Shame you couldn't put these bimbos on the front line for a day and then have them chucked out of a public swimming pool the next day.

The armed forces have to display more courage than most of us will ever know - whatever the politics, they deserve our respect.

I'm sure that the sight of two amputees would have been far less distressing to the kids than the sight of their mother making a scene about it? Evil woman.

It is bad that the rehab centre doesn't have it's own pool, or at least private access to allow for physio/rehab sessions to be carried out in peace and with a bit of privacy.

One of the instructors should have decked her there and then. Why do things like this never happen in places I am in? Armlock and march her out the fire exit in her swimming cossie.

Stupid c*w.

I'm just glad the swimming pool told them to get stuffed, I had a dread that the squaddies would have been kicked out..

People like her just need a week in the stocks, that'll help.

I'm sorry, but on this occasion, I think I would have completely "lost it" and gone for her or them.

They need to be made an example of, ie. their identities publicised, so that others can give them the benefit of their opinon.

"IQ of a sofa", comes to mind.

It shouldn't really be necessary, though, Andy. It seems hard to believe that war veterans can't be given a little more respect/thanks/acknowledgement by the public, particularly where it wouldn't take much effort.

I get the impression that this is not a new thing, that war veterans have never really been given the treatment they deserve going back to WW1 though WW2, and for the USA, Vietnam. Society seems to want, in some way, to blame the veterans themselves for the political folly of the wars they are sent into, or to resent the visual reminder of the more unpleasant side of armed conflict.

It must be a somewhat crushing blow, mentally, to be on the receiving end of that kind of hate from the very people you nominally protect.

living for a little bit of the year in a US Navy town, I can assure you that they get plenty of respect in the local community.

Healthy veterans who don't need anything get lots of respect in the US, but its a different story for the poor disabled ones.

Out of interest, since I don't live far from Headley Court, I thought I might drop round a Chrismas gift or something. Are they allowed beer?

Take a keg, I'll pitch in half. Least we could really.

How about a PH sponsored booze run to make up for that idiot, chavette scumbag? £10 each should cover it.

Anyone local want to organise it? I'm a bit far north and tied to my own hospital at the mo', but let me know where to send the cash.
