It's a tough one, and it's really tempting to say 'just go for it', but people do get busted for it a lot more often than is realised. My old place of work, a pair of years before I joined, there was a guy who got the door because he had lied like hell on his CV. It was only when he went for a promotion, and was asked to 're-interview' as if from cold, that it all came to light, and he got found out big style.

No-one is saying that a wee white lie about being in the chess club or whatever will land you in the ste, but claiming to have 7/8 O Levels etc when you have maybe two would definately have some eager young HR drone smelling blood.

just lie, i cant remember mine but ive got a favourite selection of grades i normally put. as long as its not A* or whatever the equivalent in real exams (rather than 'write your name thats a A' gcses) i doubt they'd check.

If you tell fibs be careful. If it's a large employer with lots of HR people trying to justify their existence, then they WILL check. My current employer checked mine as I had to sign a form allowing them to do so.

They may well check.

When applying for membership to my professional body, I had to provide proof, I only had a couple of certificates, so I sent them off, and told them I had a B in English GCSE.

They sent back all my certs, and also the missing ones they'd researched on. Turns out I got an A in English...which was nice

why would you put something of so little releance on your C.v.?


Ditch all qualifications unless they are specifically needed by your job except perhaps your highest qual...

Have recently taken off all the gumpf off my cv - education details, personal details, vendor quals and certs and other course work. C.v. now has details on experience, achievments and professional history only. Reads way better. If they want to know when you get the interview, they ask (most likely have some big form you HAVE to fill in for them anyway).

If you went to school 20 years ago its mostly irrelevant.

There are four levels of security checks in the Civil Service:
Level 1 – Baseline Personal Security Standard Checks
Level 2 – Vetting
And then the Counter-Terrorist Checks
Level 3 – Security Check
Level 4 – Developed Vetting

A BPSSC is carried out as part of the normal departmental recruitment procedures. The aim of this check is to positively establish identity and obtain background information on the subject by taking up references. The checks are regarded as providing sufficient assurance as to reliability and integrity for an individual to have access to UK material marked RESTRICTED and CONFIDENTIAL, and occasional access to SECRET material.
