Interestingly I was told that I can claim for travel expenses if I have to go to interviews for jobs that are outside a certain local area. I've not bothered, as you have to contact them before the interview and there seems to be a lot of messing about involved, but for anyone struggling it may be worth it.

Good luck to anyone else who finds themselves in the same situation as I am currently in. It's not much fun, and after a while it starts to wear you down, but I'm sure we'll get sorted eventually. For me it's not about the money as much as it is about not being bored out of my tits every day. frown

I reckon that about 60% of those jobs never actually existed, it was just recruitment agents harvesting CVs for their database.
had 4 jobs go to second interview and each one was filled by an internal candidate for the jobirked

If you want to clain tracvel to interview costs you have to tell the job center first, fill out a form and they will phone the employer to make sure you turned up.
Now to me that makes you look like a prat to your new potential boss>

Yes you can get the above you MUST tell them in advance and go for an appt to fill the bloddy form in .. 2 forms .. a TIS form AND and expense form. The reason for he appt is that they allocated the time to process the form ..

Oh, when you find a job, you can get £300 for something Essential to help you start your job, ie tools/clothes. Again you must tell them in advance

Good luck

They DON't have to phone .... you may have to provide proof, ie email/letter

I was paid off recently, went to sign on to get my stamp paid, not expecting anything else and was told the very same, picked up 10 weeks work within days. Went back to resign and suddenly I'm entitled to the JSA of £60.50 a week for 6 months. Yes I've a few quid in the bank, but after 35 years of working and paying in I'll take every penny they'll give me, it'll maybe cover the cost of stamps/phone calls/internet that I'm spending chasing jobs.
The job centre lined me up for interview installing chip/pin machines in West London, I'm 10 miles north of Edinburgh ffs. Wonder what the travelling expenses were.?
The security guards in my jobcentre look frail enough that a good fart would blow them over.
Well back to housework, need to get the dusting done before she comes home.
