I know they live in water and they're waterproof etc.. But surely nobody likes being in the rain?

If I had to go swimming in gortex then I'd certainly prefer to do it in the summer...

Any thoughts?

Being a scientist, can you not perform an experiment to find out?

You're quackers mate.

Unfortunately duck psychology is not my specialist field. I'm also fairly confident my boss wouldn't consider it a valuable use of company resources.

Humans are pretty waterproof, not many like being in the rain. Think rain is likely to be pretty miserable no matter what species you are (unless you're a species that only comes out in the rain I suppose)

I'm not sure, but apparently within the Mersey tunnel they *can* issue you with a producer. wink

I think I'd rather test this theory than the other duck and watertight theory.

I do believe some species wait till it rains before coming out of their hole/den thing

As you can tell, I'm not a scientist

i reckon they don't mind it, but don't particularly enjoy it. there's a difference between floating around, going for the odd dive etc. and being rained on.

btw - what does a happy duck look like?

frogs like the rain. what makes you think ducks are any different, apart from the feathers, flying and the liking the bread thing?

We had ducks and they would walk round in all conditions. Chickens didn't like it, and our geese would find shelter if things got heavy.

I believe so, hence my caveat. I distinctly recall seeing Mr Attenborough knelt over a hole in the rain on the televisual equipment.

I cant help thinking that the darker of the three ducks looks like there is still a glimmer of hope in his soul that the rain may cease at any moment.

Not disgruntled - maybe more disappointed.

I disagree, I see more defiance than disappointment. He knows the rain is misery inducing, but he intends to stand proud before his inescapable adversary.

Possibly.

Either that or there is a fine bit of duck skirt he's noticed on the other side of the pond.

I think the one on the left doesn't mind too much. Perhaps it likes Pina Coladas as well?
