I live next to a river and have never seen a dead duck, where do all the dead ducks go?

Not true. Ours will stand out of the rain if they can, believe it or not. Our geese were the same.

Funnily enough, the goldfish doesn't seem to mind. wink

I live downstream where a fair amount of flotsam and jetsam accumulate, but never any dead ducks , it will forever remain a mystery to me.

I think dead ducks are like missing socks. Nobody really knows where they go. I dont think socks like the rain though. I'm assuming this as fact as my wife always brings them in before they get wet so leading me to the conclusion that this fact.

Fascinating. Now when my daughter asks me what I was reading on the net, I can explain in detail about homosexual necrophiliac ducks. There isn't a suitable smilee for that!

So if ducks are like socks and we have clear proof here that they are because they go missing, then, as socks don't like the rain, then neither do ducks.

That would mean socks float and we should burn the OP as a witch.

Typical Pistonheads. Ask a simple question and you get lectured about necrophilia and then threatened to be burned at the stake...

My pet ducks sheltered from the rain and when it snowed I put the patio heater on for them and they used to sit under that biggrin So I would say they don't like rain and definately don't like snow.

Humans are pretty waterproof, not many like being in the rain. Think rain is likely to be pretty miserable no matter what species you are (unless you're a species that only comes out in the rain I suppose)
Surely being out in the rain is only uncomfortable because you're wearing clothes and they get wet and stick to your skin.

I bet if we didn't wear clothes being out in the rain would be quite enjoyable.

warm rain is fantastic. i got caught in a shower in jamaica once and it was just the thing to take the edge of 35C heat and a day of rum & ganja.

does anyone know why cats don't like water?

Oh yes, the ducks and especially the bantams love those halogen heaters. One of the banties opens her wings and follows the heater through it's arc and back, catching the heat like a parabolic shield.

Oh Yes you do!

I was staying at a hotel in town and opened the window and there was a nesting pidgeon with her chicks..... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!

The reason you don't see "baby" pidgeons is because they don't leave the nest until they already look adult. Those ones you see walking about pecking each other are the parents trying to get rid of their young!

And no ducks don't like rain when I lived on the Thames they were often to be found sheltering under my pier.

Mind of useless information me
