I haven't read all the posts but I do both. I call the second one a rabbit or cannon fodder.

Another game is how long it takes the middle lane moron to understand when you pass him and leave your indicator on.

Slight variation on #2

Used to drive from Basingstoke to Kendal on a Fri night. Guaranteed on the A34 and M4 you'd find two other drivers willing to play "convoy": bomb along at 100+, then after a random while lead car (#1) drops into middle lane, cars 2 and 3 overtake, then #1 takes up tail end charlie. Repeat until one one of you turns off, with a "thanks" by way of double indication and a quick flash. Then look for someone else to join in. Guess I wasnt alone thinking that if we shared the risk...

So there you are, on the motorway, at natural cruising speed of perhaps a bit over the posted limit but south of ban territory - standard median pace on our motorway network.

Boring isnt it?

So I bet my bile duct that at least one other person out there on PH has resorted to the odd motorway 'game'

Two to start with:

1) The 'changing lane without hitting the catseyes' game: A solid favourite this, simply change lane in the prescribed manner but without the 'thump thump' of catseye/tyre interface.

2) The 'wingman' game. You're trudging along, traffic fairly light, not gunning it. All of a sudden a car passes clipping along, probably North of 100mph, do you just let him go or do you give him about half a mile and then accelerate to his speed considering that if there is a cop/scamera van with a gun they'll get him first and the brake lights will alert you to the dangers thus allowing you to travel quickly a bit freer from opression.

Its not just me is it? Come on, share the love. Any more for any more?
rofl I do both of them on occasion! thumbup the second one is a favourite trick if I have to get somewhere swiftly.. wait for a rep to pass and.... follow! biggrin

When I'm not in a massive hurry, and am on a long journey, I play the fuel range game (not to be confused with fuel light bingo).

Basically you aim to get the most from a tank of fuel whilst still driving at the speed limit - so no crawling along at 55, thats cheating!.

Techniques range from coasting, controlling acceleration so that you dont brake unnecessarily for the next lights, keeping rolling in traffic etc.

On a fairly clear motorway you can use the dead zone behind the hgv's to massively increase mpg as you come up and overtake them. this also keeps you from being an MLM wink

Theres plenty of other techniques as well but they are my own so you'll have to work them out!

So far I've managed 490 miles from a 65 litre tank, this equates to 34mpg average which in a 3.0 petrol 4x4 on a mixture of A, B, and M roads is pretty good!

On a Bucks to Manchester run it only adds around 20-30 minutes, if I belt along I tend to see returns of 22mpg!, this means I get an extra 180 miles of free juice per tank or £25 more Stella money when playing this game!!

PS. The wingman game is also called pace car where I come from, and who the F.... does the eyes shut game I think / hope thats a wind up
