Driving alone in France (Toll question)
Discussion
Not paradise exactly, we've got fantastic roads, tunnels, landscape, but too many Gendarmes. They're only bothered about speed though, the exhaust on my MX5 makes our Elise with a Janspeed sound quiet, but I've never been stopped because of it.
That's another thing, with a tag, you usually miss the gendarmes/douane, as they usually hand around on the right after the péage.

Yes the Gendarmerie are a pest these days, I honestly can't believe the French put up with it. A similar campaign in the mild mannered old UK would result in riots I reckon. The tactics used seem entirely OTT. Camouflaged officers hiding under sight lines with tiny cameras on the safest roads in the country (Almost empty Autoroutes ) seems outrageous. That's another thing, with a tag, you usually miss the gendarmes/douane, as they usually hand around on the right after the péage.
But the run down the Tarn Gorge or the Corniche Des Cevennes , as good as it gets.

The only upside has been that so far the Gendarmes have been very friendly.
The flashing of lights from oncoming traffic has saved me SO many times, and when you are driving alone you really can`t risk an instant ban!

I'll keep an eye out for a mad Englishman when I go for a drive then ! It is nice, around St Juery & Ambialet, or up north around St Antonin, Penne, Bruniquel, you can have a good time on the roads down here. Believe me, I don't miss rainy Newcastle at all !

This is the Corniche between Florac and St Jean Du gard.
Oh wow, that looks good, must have been fun with an MRS !
Have you tried the "Route des Cols", across the Pyrenees ? We went from Collioure to St Jean de Luz over 3 days, over 900km of mountain roads. You need something comfortable though, after 3 days with track config, all I could think about was sitting on my comfy sofa !
Should we maybe start a "Fun French Roads" topic before sider tells us off for not talking about French motorway problems ?

Last O/T post honest , but the roads around St Jean Pied de port and St Jean De Luz at the Western end are ace, need to do some miles in and around Pamplona next year

How often are you down here ? Because the "ASA" organise some good outings in Spain & south of France, usually 2 or 3 days, visiting the area at "moderate" speed (ahum), good food/drink/hotels, and a day or half day on track.
Ok , very last O/T Post now. I am in France about 3/4 times a year. Always in the South in the Summer based around the Cevennes usually and always at Le mans.
If you have a link Sophie I'd be very interested.
PM it if you like.

If you're regularly driving at the sort of speeds it takes to have your licence yanked on the spot then best you stay at home because you're not welcome in France ! Expatloon said:

Where exactly did I say that I was?My point was that you absolutely can't!
How exactly do you know that France isn't my home or that I don't also have a home in France?
