Need to lend my France based parents an automatic (car!) whilst the only driver between them recovers from a leg operation.

They're a bit stressed at the moment so I've not bothered them with this....but am I correct that in France their car is insured rather than the driver so no 3rd party option to drive someone else's car? I'm assuming it would be easier to get them named on my UK policy but I live in hope for something easy!

I think you're right, as they won't be insured to drive your UK-insured car unless they are named drivers. Their french policies won't cover this. But to be absolutely sure they'll just need to call their insurance person...
