I wanted to put an announcement in the local paper, Le Maine Libre. Well, I was going to, as a friend of the deceased, and on behalf of us expat friends, but that came to an abrupt halt when we learned the cost. With a photo, it was 250€, plus an extra 60€ if we wanted it published in any other department outside the Sarthe. And that is just a simple little announcement, nothing grand. Being from Leicester, I looked up the price there, and it is a reasonable £50. I knew the cost of dying was high, but that is just really taking advantage of a situation.

My wife is in the process of winding up her SARL. To do so she has to, by law put an advert In the paper stating her intention to do so, then another one once she starts, then another when it is actually complete, at a cost of €160.00 per ad! As if anyone gives a st! More money fleecing by La République!

Oh yes, nearly forgot. Her reason for doing so? Nothing left in the business for her and her partner to make it worthwhile once the French have finished imposing various nonsense like the aforementioned on them!

Jesus. They've got to have their part for the "state" haven't they? Can't keep their interfering hands out of it.

You better Believe it! This has been grinding on since September last year. Despite the SARL bank account now being frozen and the business officially no longer trading, bills for social contributions et al still arrive on an almost weekly basis. To be fair to the French, even the bank manager throws his hands in the air in resignation and curses the ridiculous system almost as much as we do! He looks genuinely embarrassed when we go to him with the latest mound of idiotic "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" paperwork and couldn't be more apologetic. Let's not lose sight of the fact a lot of the French are victims of all this bullst as well!
