Hello
We don't watch a lot of TV but do watch BFM in the mornings, they had been mentioning the switch to HD but as our set in the Kitchen was reletively new we thought nothing of it. Then yesterday .....blank screen! And then no tuners in any shops either as everyone must have had the same :-)

On checking our gites they both need either a tuner or a new saterlite box, both have LCD flat screen TVs
So the cost of yesterday is 2 x TNT HD tuners 1 x TNT HD Sat box (little gite is low) and 3 x HDMI cables Total circa 200€

ARRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

We did! Our little old LCD stopped working mid week, last week.

Do I need to buy a French market telly or digibox, or will one bought in the UK work?

It's no problem, just buy a new set top box and connect via HDMI cable if new TV or Scarf , most supermarkets are sold out, we got ours in Darty.

It must be a French market box though?

The reason I ask is that we were thinking of picking up a new bigger TV anyway, with digital built in, and wondered if I could get in the uk to take out next time.

Now that's a question, our two other newer house UK TVs were OK. It was a small Toshiba LCD one which had the problem and the older ones in our gites.

My Panasonic Freesat/Freeview brought from the UK picks up the French DVB channels just fine as does my newer Samsung LED TV also from the UK.

Have you tried it since whatever switchover happened last week? There is loads of conflicting info on the net.

Yes, did a rescan yesterday and picked up something like 32 DVB channels some of which I'd never seen before.

Edit: Correction to the above statement. The Samsung LED TV (about 4 years old) picks up all the channels just fine but the Panasonic Plasma (10 years old) only picks up the local France TV channels (FR1, FR2, FR3 etc.) on DVB.

As a result of the problem with the old Panny TV I have a question for French PHr's.

Has anyone bought a French TV with built-in French versions of Freesat/Freeview?

If so, can the TV's location be changed to UK when setting up the Freesat side so that you can enter the postcode etc.?

The reason is that I'm thnking of replacing the 10 year old power hungry Panny Plasma with a new Samsung TV, something like the Samsung UE48JU6670 1200 PQI 4K INCURVE.

We currently use the Freesat on the Panasonic for UK TV and the DVB side for French TV and would like to continue to do that.

Freesat features (EPG etc) are only available on receivers manufactured under license from Freesat. French market TVs with built in satellite receivers (if that is what you mean) won't have this functionality.

I thought Freesat had to go through a Sky Box because the signal has to be converted from the satellite to the TV.
If so any tv will work via a HDMI socket.

I suppose if UK votes for Brexit none of our tellys will receive French TV at all
