Hi guys,

I've just seen that registration is opening soon for the first of this year's evolve speed runs. I'm thinking of signing up as I've recently bought a Subaru BRZ (great fun BTW) for the purpose of getting out and doing track days and the like. Has anyone done any of these speed runs before? Any good? Anyone planning on signing up for this year? Would also be interested to hear from any of you that do track days and would love to tag along once it cools down a bit.

Cheers,

Matt

The speed/fun run events are basically informal autocross and very good fun. Well priced, well organised, good crowd, good day out all round. The club is the only real grass roots organisation here and should be supported. I hope to attend when I am here.

I am not a fan of their track days and would not attend another. Mainly due to extremely bad driving standards that go unpunished on an overcrowded track. YMMV

Thanks for the advice. Will probably do the speed run and take it from there.

Try track days at DA. They're cheap and Frequent. As a newcomer you have to do 3 (I think) beginner sessions on club circuit but after that you're free to come to the open pitlane sessions on the other layouts with far less traffic.

You'll be okay doing any track day- intermediate or novice - at DA after only one novice (club circuit)session, as crazy as that sounds

Thanks guys. I've done a few track days before at Brands and the Nurburgring. really enjoyed it and have wanted to do some more ever since. Will get a few novice days under my belt and see where it takes me. Will also look at getting out on early morning weekend drives up to the mountains. I've been to the roads around Hatta and Jebal Hafert a few times but have heard Jebal Jais is good also.

if you have previous experience then yes, one novice session is enough. you will see why they ask 3 though, it can be chaotic.

I frequently do both car and bike track days at the Autodrome (well I didn't buy a GT3 and R1M to do 2mph down the Walk did I!!).

I find them much more civilised than in the UK. You won't get a Citroen Saxo with a dustbin for an exhaust trying to stuff you into the corners.

I was there 2 weeks ago having a lively joust with a Lamborghini Aventador no less.

Always do a few track days so you become familiar but in my experience they tend to be very quiet (by UK standards) and are not intimidating at all. Best of all you don't have to spend much time warming your tyres.

If you want a friendly face to go with then let me know.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to it.

GT3 looks epic. Would love to graduate from my old Turbo to a GT3 but all of the cheap 996/7's seem to have dried up. Maybe a GT4 in a few years when they are out of warranty and cheap. Meanwhile the BRZ, although not the quickest, is great fun in the corners.

Will look out for you all.
