My GF has just been offered a job in Berlin and it looks like we will be moving from FFM. I know the Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte areas quite well but we are looking to find something in the west of the city as she will be working around the KDW area.

Are there any areas that you would not live in? Neu Köln and Wedding are currently on my list.

Been here for 4 years, living in Kreuzberg. Neukoelln is pretty cheap and some of the northern areas are becoming quite gentrified, but generally very multicultural, loud, busy. Southern Neukoelln toward the airport is more resedential with some houses rather than the usual Berliner altbau apartments, might be a bit far from work or city living. What do you mean by the KDW area? I know Wedding is another cheaper district, but I am not familiar with it at all apart from that there are trendy breweries and nightclubs popping up there.

West Kreuzberg and Schoeneberg are nice districts, lots of bars and restaurants, inner city living (no houses). We are moving out to Steglitz-Zehlendorf in December, which is a much more quiet and family orientated area, but with great connections to the centre. Charlottenburg / Wilmersdorf offers that too, but more central. Depends what you are after really.

Thanks for replying.

KDW = Kaufhaus des Westens.

I too have been looking at Steglitz, well the northern most part, as it does seem well connected. Berlin does seem to have become stupidly expensive over the past couple of years.
