Industrial tastic I'm sure, but is it a nice place to be (or at least work in, and live close by based on the comments about industrial towns in other threads!)

I'm in Hamburg often, and have been for the past 15 years or so. Outside of London, there are 2 cities I would happily live in, Hamburg and Amsterdam. Nice people (some consider them a little stuffy - its an 'old money' town). But, thats me. Its a mostly quiet town - some decent restaurants and beautiful buildings and some great residential areas. What I don't know about is what its like from a bar/club perspective, as thats not me. The lake is beautiful - you have the river, some nice parks and decent transport links. I love it.

I would echo the above, but add that the skies are greyer and darker for more of the year than the south UK. This is a bit offset by access to the airport via very good public transport, to get some sunlight.

Thanks, nice that it sounds as positive as I've been hoping!

I was offered a job in Hamburg but chose one just down the road in Bremen instead, Hamburg is a huge city; not to my liking!

Nice city, loads to do, excellent transport, rent is probably above average.

I spend a bit of time in Luebeck with work and we always goto Hamburg for a bit. Lovely city. Hiring a boat and gettting up close and personal with the huge cargo ships can be fun if not a little scary.

Just seen this thread. Hamburg is a fantastic place. We have a house just outside Hamburg and spend as much time as possible there. I'd permanently relocate if i could but work commitments keep getting in the way

There's a good British community there too. They play cricket.

Oh yes Hamburg ist just beautiful.

Lived there for 18 years before moving in 2014.

It is definitely a "must see" city in northern/central Europe.
