Oooh interesting, how do you find the two compared? I've have had two manual 9-5 Aeros and am now looking at an auto 2.8... We briefly had an auto 9-3 Aero 2.0T and found it pretty gutless after the 9-5s, hence considering the 2.8.

And do you have any more pictures of the 9-5 there? It looks mean smile

Hi guys. The 9-3 was similar to my 9-5, insanity in a business suit is my favourite description . The 9-3 was smoother power delivery definitely and was faster but maybe only due to hirsch map. But the sound oh how I miss that sound lol. One of my all time favourite cars and I've had a few :-).

Few more pics of 9-5 as requested. Not bad considering it's got 138k and cost £1500 with 5 months tax, test, a private plate and a good whack of petrol in it!

55JWR,your blue 9-3 looks lovely & would be my first colour choice, this is my first Saab & think that it's going to be a keeper. It was first registered on 21st March 2001 by Alexanders Saab of Stockton,Teeside maybe around the same time or place as your Dad's?
Yeah my dad bought his from Alexanders and it was registered in late March 2001 it was serviced there up until 2 years ago. When the turbo went and he had it replaced with an Aero TD04, a maptun exhaust fitted and a maptun remapped by a local Saab specialist who's looked after it since. His intention is to keep it until he has to give up driving (in his 70's now).

Mine looks a little bit different especially when its parked next to a stock 9-3. It's about 30mm lower, has Viggen wheels, bigger grooved brakes and Abbott exhaust

Some recent pics. I'll have to get a picture of it with Y832 next time im round my parents

Great first post Daniel, like the drivers side window wind deflector.Just out of interest, how much is petrol & your Road Tax over there?

Mine also had a new Turbo fitted by the previous owner last year as well,it sounds like your Dad has good taste & enjoys his car. From what I've heard a lot of Saab owners are loyal to the marque. I've seen that track picture of your blue 9-3 somewhere before, maybe I spend too much time on the internet!

Came across this website www.serioussaab.co.uk quite interesting & a wealth of information.

Hi Ray,

Just edited the post there, forgot to mention its a diesel lol. Road tax if 570euro a year.

Yes the wind deflectors are a nice little touch, could only find fronts ones for it though.

Not to sure on diesel or petrol prices at the minute as I am selling the Saab so been garaged the last few weeks.

The slug (nicknamed by the family due to the way she pulls away, i.e. slowly being an auto!).

Vector Sport, 1.9 TiD 150, just turned 80,000 miles and I've had it for a year and 20,000 miles. Cost a bit in that time, brakes all round, new a/c condenser, EGR valve, 4 new tyres etc but considering it was bought as a cheap car whilst we got a bigger house (its helped us move 3 times now without the need for a van) I've actually grown very attached to it.

Treated it to some new wheel centre caps and gave it a damn good clean, looked much better in the sun!

....as a side note if anyone ever thinks Uniroyal Rainsport tyres seem like a good, cheap tyre to use on your Saab, stay well away. The road noise off them is horrendous!

Here is my latest. This is my 9th Saab, 5th of the Aero variety. Thought I'd share it. Very happy with it so far, few jobs done already and a few left to do, most importantly a remap!! It's got 103k on it and Black leather, heated electric seats, sunroof and no faults to speak of. Manual too! Still prefer 9000's though!

My first Saab (photos from viewing it on the 25th of April at the seller's house on a very wet Friday afternoon).

Pick it up on Tuesday next week driving

Looking forward to roof down trips.

The car is a 9-3 Aero with 83,000 miles and is pretty much perfect for our needs.

My wife asked me 'why a Saab?', my answer 'because I have never had one'.

So that's how nice my 95 could look if it wasn't covered in dents, scrapes, scratches and general grime. I must order a touch up pen and put some polisher time aside.

Haha, you would be suprised what a good polish can do for it, get a rotary on it after claybaring etc, then top with either Collinite 476 or Bilt Hamber Auto Balm. Ive been titivating slowly but its finally getting there smile. Just the rear callipers to paint now.

Engine bay shot :-

Nice motor Maty! We had one same age, same colour - nice in the sun. Also needed AC condensor! Current one which replaced it same except a couple of years younger and auto, also colour Smoke Beige Metallic. That, too, is a nice colour in the sun. Also had AC condensor failure!! Now has mesh inside the grille, home made from stainless steel from Wickes (plastere's corner, only a few quid) and enough to make the whole bit. Carefully cut and fixed with cable ties. Advise you to do same to protect your nice new condensor - surprised Saab didn't fit mesh on all their grilles lol.
Pic 3 - new naked condensor. Pic 4 - flattened Wickes SS plasterer's corner cut to fit. Pic 5 - Result, protection. Evidence (since seen a few times while washing the car) of stones having struck the mesh but not getting through.

Thanks Pete,

Like your new one, nice colour. How difficult is it to get the front bumper off, mesh looks like a good idea!

Piece of wee to remove/refit bumper. Use the Saab screwdriver handle - button on the end pushes the buttons in just the right amount on the fasteners to allow them to be removed. Pull the sides of the bumper away (there are retentive clips in there), slide it forward ideally with assistance although I managed on my own. Best to have a blanket or something on the ground (sorry Billie Jo Spears lol) when lowering the assembly. There is a connector on the left-hand side but one can do the job and leave it attached. I bought the plasterer's angle from Wickes, and carefully flattened it in the vice so as not to squash the mesh. Cut to size and attach with small cable ties (need to drill some small holes for this, and that can be done so as not to show when it is refitted) The job is a bit fiddly but well worth it. NB - those fasteners - when they are out, pull the centre pins right through then refit each fastener and follow by inserting the pins from the top and push flush to lock.
HTH

One week into Saab ownership and all is good smile

The alloys could do with a 'refurb' and some of the graphics on the buttons for the climate control are worn, but apart from that I am chuffed with the 9-3:
