Hi all.

I have a Saab 2002 9-5 Aero Hot Estate which has recently had the CPS replaced.

Today the car cut out completely while driving and failed to re-start

Had car towed and left overnight to see if symptoms of another CPS would raise its head but no the car still wont start.

It ticks upon turning key but eventually the battery dies and even using a battery pack will not help.

Does anyone know of these symptoms and would could be the cause ?

Thanks for any info everyone.

DI pack? I had one fail without warning, at speed on the M4.

It wasn't too bad actually. Engine just stopped, but I had enough speed to drop it out of gear and coast across three lanes to the hard shoulder. It in fact then restarted, but ran lumpily and did it a couple more times before getting to the next exit. (I stayed on the hard shoulder after the second time.) I don't recall the cost now, but it's not hugely expensive and it's a two minute job to swap it.

If you`re anywhere near York I`ve got a spare you could pop on to see if it cures it. If you do need to replace it don`t get one of the `copy` parts, they have a bad reputation for having a short life - you`d be better off with the youngest second hand unit you can find.
I actually keep a spare in the boot following an embarassing breakdown due to this on my old 9000!

I had a similar thing happen to me on my 02 95 Aero, on the M25. It was the Fuel pump, which is a common failure appartently

Thanks julianm that's very kind of you - I managed to fix problem with help of the AA - there was a strong smell of something burnt and it turns out this is a classic symptom of the DI pack giving up it's life - the AA rang round and we found a OEM part which took 2 mins to fit and problem solved. Have to say AA were superb - Friendly and very helpful - highly recommend - thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply :-)
