Hi
Looking for some advice regarding my 9-5 front brakes. On a recent road trip was slowing down for a junction, just before i stopped i felt a small judder through the pedal, hard to describe but felt like a grating noise. Obviously first thought was pads and disks need doing. Drove the rest of the way home with no repeat of the noise when braking.
Checked discs next day and all looked fine. Tyres were due for replacement so thought that may be a cause so went and changed them.
Noise happened again when braking, it only happens at slow speed / low pressure braking so took to my garage. They confirmed discs and pads ok so bleed the system. No change, again only at low speed and not all the time (of course when getting the mechanic to drive it and test it it never happens)
Asked the garage to change discs and pads anyway but problem is still there. Its going back in on thursday so if anybody has any ideas / tips etc it would be great. We all know mechanics love it when customers give them 'helpful' tips as to want the problem maybe lol. So in summary

Intermittent brake grinding noise at low speed
New front tyres - no change
System bleed - no change
New disks and pads - no change
No warning lights when braking, no leaks or loss of fluid
thanks

ABS reductor ring? - one of mine was doing this for months. ring was cracked right through but sometimes a good cleaning of an otherwise "OK" component will fix it.

if it is the ring, depending on the year, the fix may be a new outer CV although the rings are available separately for all years i believe

sometimes it's just road crud between the teeth fooling the sensor

My friend had a similar problem on a 9-3 turned out that some aftermarket pads are a slightly different shape causing them to move.

Well it was the ring, passenger side had a crack in it, didnt have time to search for just a ring on its own so ended up with a new cv joint. £56. All fixed now. Hope this helps someone else out as I didnt need the disks and pads doing so could have saved myself some cash. oh well.

I`ve just had the reluctor ring replaced but the only symptom was an alarm `ding dong` & the ABS light was on until a restart put it off. A few miles later it would recur. It was difficult to spot the split & only saw it when I`d given it a thorough clean. Ring was a £3 ebay item but was a perfect fit. Haven`t done the O/S but have one ready! Hope you have lots of trouble free miles now.

I never had any alarms or lights hence going for the brakes first. I know the ring was only a couple of quid but needed it doing asap. Just the D.I cassette now....
