Advice please all

Just got back home to find my saab9-5 aero estate alarm randomly going off. No flashing lights just noise. Tried both fobs & nothing happens. Opened the door manually & kept pressing fobs then popped key in ignition & nothing. After 30 seconds alarm stops thank god as I want to remain on good terms with my neighbours! I unlocked all the doors manually & alarm sensor has stopped flashing. I'm hoping this will stop the alarm going off again in the night. It's not gone off in the last 20 minutes since I did that so this is hopeful??

However fobs not working at all. I don't want to touch the car at all tonight as its late & I don't want to risk setting the alarm off again. So any ideas on getting the fobs working & what's gone wrong with the alarm would be gratefully received. My first thought is maybe to disconnect then reconnect the battery in the morning however I'm pretty sure this will set the alarm off again. Leaving the car unlocked is no bother as it's locked off-road, I just need to be able to unlock & start it with fob so I can take it to someone who can have a proper look at the alarm!

The car had a service earlier today & a careful wash of the engine due to an oil leak that's now fixed. But has been running fine all afternoon & no probs locking it earlier or with alarm.

Any advice very gratefully received

I think this may be to do with a battery in the alarm starting to fail.

I had the same problem (circa ten years old) and the garage ended up disconnecting the alarm as the battery can't be accessed. May be wrong about this but the alarm was certainly disconnected for the last few years of ownership which was fine by me as I've always found them a pain in the butt.

Have a search on eBay. There are fixes being sold. Maybe my garage didn't fancy it. They were obstinate gits.

Been having a good Google on it all since posting & it could be a fair few things. To be honest I'm happy having the alarm removed as car is old & probably of no interest to thieves & its locked up off road most of the time.

My problem now is getting it started to go get the alarm properly removed frown. I'm going to go get some new fob batteries first thing but doubt it'll do anything.

odd things happen with saabs and low battery, could be a factor.

did the fobs suddenly stop working though ? - that would be odd

have you had any "Service Theft Alarm" messages on the SID?

depending on the model year, locking doors manually will disable the alarm but not immobiliser

Mine did this so I took out the alarm box (front left wheel arch). SID flashes up a warning on start up but no other effect.

10 minute "fix" .... mainly taking the wheel off to get at the thing.

There are places on e-bay that will change the battery in the alarm box, but I didn't bother.
