2006 9-5 "Dame Edna".
Fitted a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 3s (235/45 17 97Y XL) last May.
20,000 miles later (almost all motorway in a straight line, steady speed, not much use of the BMW lane), and the front tyres are knackered, rears still have 7mm.

Two questions:

1. I ran them at 35 psi, as per the handbook. Is this correct?
2. They wore worst in the centre of the tread, down below the wear bars, but were still 3-4 mm at the edges. Is this the tyre pressures, the tyre type, or simply what 9-5s do to their tyres?

I run mine at 40 front 38 rear and mine wore fine and even across the tread.
I had Avon ZV5 XL rated in 225/45 17 and just replaced the Fronts with Uniroyal RS3s and they feel a lot softer so I'm running them at 42 and they feel a bit better but I'll be going back to the Avons when these are done.

Only lasted 8000 miles but having had 260hp put through them in its entirety quite often I think they did pretty well smile

i run mine at 38psi all round on a St3 car which does get it's head kicked in from time to time but not experienced anything like this. mine's also on Avons.

rears can "feather" on the edges if the geometry is out but obviously not the case for you.

wear across the centre is usually held to be secondary to over-inflated tyres isn't it? i'd consider gauge accuracy but no other thoughts really.
