Following the amazing interest in both our Championships before and during the Autosport Show, we have decided to expand our 'family' a little. We have received a lot of interest from Prototype/CN race cars which we couldn't really fit into the Dunlop Endurance Championship which is aimed at GT and Production Cars. As a result, and through consulting and listening to our competitors, we would like to announce the all new "Dunlop Prototype Series for 2016".

Due to the time constraints, this will be a series this year but we will be working with the MSA to get full Championship status for 2017. The Dunlop Prototype Series 2016 will consist of 4 rounds as outlined below. The programme will be increased to at least 6 and possibly as many as 8 rounds in 2017, and will be on the full Britcar Package. The provisional dates for this season are as follows:

1-3rd April: Silverstone GP - two 1 hour races, entry fee £ 1700 plus VAT (no garages)
16th July: Donington - 1 hour, £ 935 plus VAT (garages to be confirmed)
3rd - 4th September: Snetterton - 1 hour, £ 935 plus VAT (no garages)
7-9th October: Spa - 2 hour, £ 1995 plus VAT (garages to be confirmed)

Britcar Membership & Registration: £ 100 plus VAT per vehicle

All events will include 20 minutes warm up and 30 minutes qualifying. We will have the same full VIP Hospitality as the Dunlop Production and Dunlop Endurance Championships, for 2 people per Car but additional hospitality tickets can be bought prior to the event. There is currently no TV coverage but please watch this space as this may change. The full TV package will return in 2017 to match the other Championships.

The regulations / classification is still being worked on and will be finalised shortly. Here is a list of the some of the types of cars that will be eligible so you can get a flavour of the racing. This is not an exhaustive list so please contact us with your car details if it is not one of those listed below:

Ginetta G57
Radical RXC (see photo), RXC Spyder, SR3 & SR8
Praga R1
Cars built to the CN classification

License required: Possibly National A for the quickest Class and National B for all the rest, as per the Dunlop Endurance Championship. A National A will be required for the round at Spa.

The format of the races will be similar to the Dunlop Endurance Championship with a mandatory 90 second pit stop and success pit stop penalties. The pit stop allows for 2 drivers to share the Car with no disadvantage over a single driver.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us on 01420 257194

I've also seen that the Endurance Racing Series are doing 6 hour races for only £1800. There are already classes in the series for prototypes of all sizes and they were saying at the Autosport show there is free testing available before the races and about an hours qualifying time as well. They were also talking about having live streaming at two of the rounds and filming highlights of the others. I don't think the prototypes are eligible for the race they have on the Nordschleife though, I think that's just for the GT cars only.

Yes, all about Value for money tracktime in 2016. An hours qualifying, 50mins free practice and a 6 hour race for £1800 plus the VAT. Anything is eligible as long at it not a single seater and the simple regulations mean you are always in a fair race against similar performance opposition. Very few clashing dates with other series also so it allows people to sample all the series out there.

I do think that there is a resurgence of interest in prototype racing and a series that caters for lmp3, top end Radicals and CN cars should have legs. I'd add Chevron GR8s and Sakers into the mix, and maybe even a few of the old Prsport 3000 cars (if there's any still about) and some of the DP cars (if anyone wanted to import some from America) but not sure about the expense of LMP2 cars though.

However, is there really room for a Britcar run series and a GT Cup run series? I suspect that only 1 will succeed. I have no idea which one, but I hope that there is one successful prototype series for a long time to come.
