and ow, what kind of cage, I found the Lotus one a bit scary at the side of your head with those pipes cut of...never understood why they made that so strange at the side of your head almost.

I saw resent another cage, not personally but on pictures and that looked more 'save' no sharp cut pipe next your head...see if I can find it back on my PC.

My car got crazy hot in the cabin without any insulation on the engine side of the firewall. The ambient temperature after a race was about 50C and I was in real danger of heat exhaustion at the end of a race. The main problem was my exhaust manifold exits forwards, towards the firewall and is only a few cm away from it. I didn't use the poncy gold foil though, I used the cheaper Thermo-Tec stuff from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029KC2K/ref=pe...I also applied it to the right hand sill that I sit next to, as that also gets hot because it has the radiator cooling pipes running inside it.
The cabin's now not much hotter than ambient. Highly recommended and definitely necessary in a K-series car.
Frank, even with the exhaust on the back of the engine and lots of cut outs in the body to get a decent through flow of air you still get a lot of heat soak through into the cabin, and a lot of tracks here require you to have the windows closed when on circuit. But secondly, one of the main reasons for installing a solid aluminium bulkhead is for safety if we ever get a big engine fire (just ask scuffers about that!) the gold foil is rated to just over 600deg c, so if it bought me a few more seconds to get out the car before fire came through into the driver compartment then that's money well spent in my book 😉
