Frank, even with the exhaust on the back of the engine and lots of cut outs in the body to get a decent through flow of air you still get a lot of heat soak through into the cabin, and a lot of tracks here require you to have the windows closed when on circuit. But secondly, one of the main reasons for installing a solid aluminium bulkhead is for safety if we ever get a big engine fire (just ask scuffers about that!) the gold foil is rated to just over 600deg c, so if it bought me a few more seconds to get out the car before fire came through into the driver compartment then that's money well spent in my book 😉
