Slowest Lotus Forum?
Discussion
The problem with Piston heads is the same haters keep crapin on threads so there is really no need to post anything here since there is no reason to share ideas when the same haters keep coming on and causing the same old bullst...
So now I'm banned from responding on two threads about my car due to the personal insults and my responce to these jackoffs....
As I said is a real car forum without the crap...
se ya there.

I don't post on this thread that often anymore because I no longer own my Elise.
I still bloody love them & would love to own one again one day.
This is me also; I still (mainly) lurk on this forum because of continued interest and because I'm planning to buy another Elise come spring, but you don't take quite so much nuts-and-bolts interest when you haven't got one sitting on the drive.I still bloody love them & would love to own one again one day.
...but I like the PistonHeads forums because they're more broadly based. I rarely visited the Seloc forums even when I owned an Elise, 'cos I'm not into the anorak/trainspotter/fanboi obsessiveness with one car that tends to go with the single marque forums.
An individual marque forum on here will never match the traffic of a well-managed single-marque forum (except maybe the TVR forums, which is where Pistonheads came from and where it still has marque dominance), but it's none the worse for that, I don't think.

How right you are. I also tried Seloc but found it very "clique" & met up with approx 50 other Lotus enthusiast's & only a small part of us were Pistonheads members, the rest were Seloc & they didn't seem to be to keen talking to us. One comment that I heard was "oh look another pistonheader" followed by laughter....but I like the PistonHeads forums because they're more broadly based. I am sure it's not all like that & I am sure they help as much as possible with advice etc, but I didn't see that side of it.
as 'cliquey' as it can be and its one of the reasons why i just lurk as it were, on the technical info side its incredibly valuable, some of users spend a fair amount of their own time to do all that wiki 'stuff' for the benefit of the likes of me ... it therefore deserves a bit more credit imho.
which other forum holds that much in depth detail?

most of that was done before it got like it is now though..which other forum holds that much in depth detail?
It's interesting to read all this, but it's also offputting to a potential new Elise owner. Is Lotus ownership really riddled with so much dissent?
I know that there are several Lotus Clubs, and forums, so as somebody new on the scene, it's confusing enough without the politics. I've spent my whole adult life as an active car club member so I understand the politics and cliques of the monthly meetings, big events and the dinosaurs that exist in long standing clubs. All this was way before forums and the internet and it was rife then.
If I do decide to get an Elise, it's not my intention to get involved in club life, I'd rather do my own thing, and really isn't it all about enjoying your Lotus and not bothering what other people think?
I say all that without really knowing what's been going on, here or anywhere else.

Buying my 2 Elises was the best thing I have ever done. I wouldn't choose to be part of any "club" in all honesty but that didn't stop me from enjoying every second with them. Don't forget that there are loads of nice people on here willing to give you advice about the potential purchase. There are always cliques with marque clubs and forums, I think, and I'm not sure that Lotus owners are worse than anyone else.Because of the company's history, though (with a period in the doldrums between the 'glory days' of the Chapman years, until the rebirth with the Elise), there's probably a bigger gulf between the 'traditionalists' who align themselves with the original marque values (often to an intransigent degree) and the new generation, the most vocal of whom tend to be very track/mods orientated, than you'd find with a marque that's enjoyed more continuity of success/prestige (like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or even TVR).
I doubt you'll find very many of the new generation amongst Club Lotus members, and I doubt you'll find many owners of pre-Elise cars on the SELOC or MLOC forums, but that doesn't mean we hate each other - just that the focus of our enthusiasms are different and perhaps we don't understand each other as well as we might!
You will always get people trying to establish pecking orders, though, be it racers or modifiers who see themselves as a cut above 'ordinary' owners, or 'marque historians' who think the depth of their marque knowledge and length of their involvement with it gives them some sort of special precedence in terms of what the marque stands for.
....in either case, it seems to be the 'ordinary' owners, who just enjoy the cars for what they are, with a little bit of pride of ownership from the marque thrown in, who get looked down upon, despite the fact that they're probably the most normal, most numerous and most important bunch out of the lot of us - and probably get the most enjoyment!
Ignore it and buy one - they're great cars!

I have thought for a while however that I might be posting in the wrong forum and that the E E E 340r forum is leaning more towards the chap who can swap his own exhaust or engine, and then someone gives his/her own opinion (sometimes aggressively) on the way it 'should' be done, I might read it in full or if it's the same old ste I won't even open the thread.
I have decided not to renew my Seloc sub when it's up, I don't have a problem with it but I tend to think that I should be supporting MLOC since I am a Midlander. I don’t really get the Seloc ‘In’ jokes anyway but no matter.
I will say that I prefer PH over all the clubs I’ve joined over the last 25 years, TR Register, TVRCC, TSSC (and still the best club), TR7 drivers club, Lotus drivers club, Seloc, MLOC.
Long live PH no matter what you drive or don't!
