Totally cool but it ain't no Lotus...;) This is about a 2ZZ powered Lotus...
Because we all know how important that Toyota engine is to an original and authentic Lotus.Scrambled said:
In a Lotus forum it's about Lotus cars and Frank's car is still most definitely a Lotus
As it would be if it had a Honda, or a Duratec, or a Corvette LS9.... and arguably equally pointless. I merely found it amusing that the reference of the Toyota engine was felt necessary to justify th ecar's 'Lotusness'.Still, each to their own.

To the troll this 1.8 ltr. engine is the same type sold as new it is not a swap...
And your point is?The Lotus ethos has always been light weight and simplicity. Bolting on superchargers, turbochargers, intercoolers, alcohol injection systems, etc., etc., to create some sort of FRANKenstein's monster is about as far from that ethos as you can get.
Not that you shouldn't do it if that's what floats your boat - each to their own and all that - just don't expect everyone to buy into your idea of it being the 'ultimate Lotus'.

Colin would use whatever he could get his hands on if it would make his cars faster.

I disagree. He was obsessive about using the minimum number of components to do the job. If I can find time, I'll scan you an internal Memo directing all Lotus design engineers in this respect; remember this is a man who threatened to sack senior design engineers if they dared to introduce an additional (and necessary, as it turned out) link into the rear suspension of the Esprit.I'm sure the cobbled-together rear Watts link and separate ARB on current Caterhams must have him spinning in his grave.
Certainly, he would do anything he could to make his race cars faster, but even then he insisted that the solution should be elegant and minimalist (not to mention cheap).

Dudes Chapman died in 1982 he had nothing to do with the Elise/Exige and he was a scrote to boot from what I've read..
The Elise/Exige was a conscious attempt to get back to the 'core values' of the company's origins under Chapman, though: (relatively) cheap, accessible 'enthusiast' sportscars that achieve their performance through light weight and cleverness instead of brute horsepower. But regardless of that, why (serious question) do you feel it is so important that your car is a 'genuine Lotus', if you have no allegiance to the marque or its values?
Surely, if you just want to be the fastest in the 'canyons', the Exige is a blind alley? If Lotus' ethos, history and marque values mean nothing to you, why not create something much quicker, cheaper and more reliable on a more suitable base (such as the sports racer in Chuntington's clip)?

going back to the point, Chapman would have used just about anything if it would make his cars faster.
Twin-chassis cars are a classic example, hardly the minimum number of components or complexity.

Ethos of the Lotus brand,,,, That's a term used by those that do nothing to improve the brand.. But regardless of that, why (serious question) do you feel it is so important that your car is a 'genuine Lotus', if you have no allegiance to the marque or its values?

I'm no collector I drive my car as it's designed and it is designed for the canyons of southern CA. with it's roof to block out the sun and it's AC to keep things comfortable on the drive home..
So far I haven't seen one engine swap into an Elise/Exige come within 200 hp of my Toyota 2ZZ, so why would some fool swap it out for a lessor engine ?
If I wanted a sports racer I would have bought one but instead I have a Lotus that can do everything I want it to do... It is much quicker, handles better and is much less expensive than any car on the road you can buy that could even come close.....
You on the other hand don't have a Lotus that can do anything so why not just STFU and go away troll....

As I've already pointed out, you're confusing the road cars and the race cars.the ronin said:

And you consider that a 700bhp engine is an essential improvement for most Elise/Exige purchasers?the ronin said:

I have owned 6 and will certainly own more in the future. I can pretty much guarantee I won't be looking for one with a 700bhp engine that eats gearboxes like popcorn, but that's just me (and 99.9% of other Lotus purchasers).I know you're keen to shout down anyone whose opinion extends beyond sycophantic fawning toward you, but this is a forum, Ronin. It's for discussion.
If you want to control that discussion, why don't you go off and start a forum of your own, exclusively for your fanbois?
No... wait.

I find this poor show and bad taste, especially when (IIRC) he has family/colleagues on here, not the Lotus Ethos I love about our cars.Edited by SeanyD on Tuesday 3rd April 10:58

Why not troll on another thread since this is about my car not something you don't own..You allways bring up the same crap when I post...
Seriously chump you are a bore.....
For me, the whole appeal of this car is that it retains the 2ZZ.
Every other big power Exige/Elise seems to have a Honda or Audi engine swap(don't get me wrong, I love the K20), and initially when I started seeing Ronin's cars in videos I assumed it was another transplant, but I respected it a whole heap more when I learnt it retains the original engine type.
