Well, I was going to keep a build thread going on here for my car, however for some reason my original thread from a couple of months ago was removed without explanation. No idea why, so I'll try again.(If the person who removed it sees this, please could you let me know why it was deleted, so I don't make the same mistake again. If it was due to some sort of advertising rule breach, this really wasn't my intention, so my apologies)

Anyway, lots has been going on with the car with regards to development, but the main focus for this year was to address the power situation in order for us to be competitive against the other entrants in the Pro Class of Time Attack this year. We have also been working on the chassis, aero etc.

Some of you may have read about the car elsewhere, but for those that haven't, we have always run a supercharged Honda K20a. For this year however, we have fitted an additional turbo in compound with lots of upgrades to the cooling and fuel system. Due to a last minute rush leading up to our first event, we had what turned out to be a minor engine failure which caused us a DNF.

Now though, we have had a proper chance to get everything spot on for our next event. So, 2 solid days were spent on the dyno this week and the car ended up making 570 bhp at the hubs at just under 2 bar boost and on pump fuel. This was felt to be a safe output, rather than trying to wind up the boost and go for headline figures. In competition we will be using low boost for the most part of the time which means about 500bhp and then using a steering wheel mounted 'push-to-pass' button for high boost down the straights.........if we find we need it.

Anyway, a couple of recent pics. Again, I'll try and keep this thread up to date from now on.

The turbo is a Garrett GTX3582R with upgraded bronze bearing carrier. Yes, it's a big turbo but looks fairly small in comparison to some on show in our race paddocks!!! Wastegate is a 60mm Tial, the biggest they make.

Yep, here you go. This power graph is done at the hubs by the way, so add around 12% for power at the engine. It's amazing what effect the charger has!!!

looks awesome.
Which boost gauge do you have in the car? they all seem to be 52mm on ebay and somewhat chintzy, the tasteful stack looks ok, but I would prefer something around 100mm so its easier to read and flashy :P
Is it about 7.5:1 compression?

This is my quick summary from yesterdays race meet:-

What a week for the whole team. After the massive effort of rebuilding the car in under a week after the big fire, we finally made it to Croft for round 2 of the UK Time Attack Championship.

Work on the car to get it finished was still happening whilst Simon was sitting in the car, waiting to go out for it's first ever proper session!!!! Anyway, the gearbox valve block somehow sucked in some dirt which caused it to jam, so that was the end of our warm up session. It was pulled apart, cleaned and re-fitted.

The practice session didn't throw up any problems and Simon got a feel for the car and the circuit, having not driven there for 10 years. The times were starting to look good and we were top of the leader board. In qualifying Simon started to lean on the car more to see what it felt like. All looking really positive and lots of consistent laps being put down to gather data etc. With our push-to-pass button for full boost being applied down the start/finish straight, the car looked and sounded like a guided missile, as full power was unleashed. We could tell that the times were coming down and we ended the session top of the board again with a 1.23 flat and about 1 second faster than anyone else. Simon thought that there was probably a 1.20/1.21 to come in the final, as he was still learning.

A complete nut and bolt check out of the way and a few setup and aero changes made and it was time for the final. However, again we were very unlucky and our day was once again cut short. Our battery isolator had for no apparent reason decided to cut the engine after only a minute on track and Simon was forced to coast onto the infield grass and watch the rest of the session from his seat. Once again, we were all gutted.

On the plus side however, we now know what the car is capable of and can start fine-tuning it, ready for Snetterton in a months time. The engine package has turned out to be an absolute cracker and the new 4 way Quantum Racing dampers are working very well indeed.

Once again, huge thanks to all of our sponsors for their generosity and an even bigger thanks to Scuffers, Eliseparts and Matthew Bentley Racing for all their hard work, especially in the last week!!!!

Unfortunately we didn't get round to sorting out the camera properly and only fitted it in the final where the battery isolator failed. Therefore we only have a tiny bit of footage and only a few seconds full boost blast down the pit straight where you can see how fast the car is. Just compare how fast the car goes through the gears compared to last year to see how hard this new engine pulls!!!! And sorry, but the quality isn't that great...

Anyway, here's the footage:-

Cheers.

We don't have a boost gauge or any gauge for that matter. We just have everything linked to our Aim dash.

Compression is around about 9:5:1.

that car really shifts forwards, wow...
and fast shiftings and a very fast car, sad to hear about that fuel? related problem or is it something protective in the ecu? that says, thats to much to handle and for protection we cut the power of?

so the car is a potential winner I guess, good luck next time.
