Ah ok. It looked longer, lower and flatter than the standard one. Mine is a custom one and it looked more like the one I'm running to the more rounded standard affair.

Well, one could argue the shotgun peppering of stonechips is non-standard shoot

Got a photo of your splitter in a suitably magnificent photo for this thread? I'm curious now.

Ta. It works too in terms of downforce, as was proven when it ripped itself halfway off the clam at 135mph.

Yup - that'd be me wondering if I'd have to push the bloody thing out to a main road in order to get the RAC to pick it up. In the end my friend fixed it with some wire and the bodge held all the way back to Yorkshire!

Took this on the way back from the Norlog meet at the Cat and Fiddle a couple of weeks ago.

More dry and sunny days needed. Soon. Please!

Looks good. Agree we some dry days.
It's rained almost constantly since I bought mine. I keep wandering out to the garage for a look.

Very kind. I still think it's the nicest looking Elise variant but then I would say that, wouldn't I?! I love looking at it but I love driving it even more.

Out of interest how does the exige compare to the s1 elise, I know it may seem silly to compare the two. But I cant seem to find any reviews that mention how the car feels compared to the elise. Faster obviously, and I know the aero makes a big difference at higher speeds and on track.

But does the car feel lighter and more agile, or just more frantic and better on track?

Im looking to get an s1, but wondering if I should save up for an exige, so any opinions would be great!

Well, confession time, despite having passengered in several S1 Elises I've never driven one. General rule is that the Exige is more compromised and a bit quicker than an Elise. All these cars will have been tinkered with by now and you can make an Elise much like an Exige if you really want.

The VHPD is the dominating factor for me. It's a ludicrous engine - caustic, grumpy and smelly. The whole car feels like a little road-going racer. The K-series in the Elise is smoother and easier to use but still characterful.

Really, objectively, the Exige isn't worth it. But subjectively the way it makes you feel as a driver is incomparable. When you really get pressing on the broader track and the downforce make it feel incredibly stable and the engine is so addictive to work hard.

Not sure if that answers your question. Best idea would be to drive variants of both and then figure out how to justify the extra £££! For a reason you may not be able to put your finger on you will want the Exige very badly indeed.

Actually you answered it brilliantly! I know exactly what you mean about the exige and its specialness. Thank you.

Ive been looking at the various different spec elises and it seems that the 135 engine upgrades are rather good for extra kick, and that the konis can be replaced with a various different amount of units, ranging from the road racer to the more softer set up.

I don't plan on much track work, so wasn't sure if the exige was better on track but not as slick on the road compared to the simpler elise.

I need to get my hands on one to drive, then I can start comparing it with other spec elises/exiges.

Very subjective, really. You won't find an Elise derivative of any kind which isn't an absolute hoot on road and track. My Exige is running two-way Nitrons and handles brilliantly. Interestingly, it's attracted praise on road and track from S1 Elise owners for both its compliance and grip. There's no reason an Elise wouldn't feel identical on the same suspension, other than the Exige's slightly broader track.

The 135 engine is a cracker. A friend has the 135 head on his S1 Elise and it's a great engine with a smooth power delivery and bags of torque.

Trying to decide which model suits you best is an infinite process. I'd suggest you drive a couple of different models and see what you like best. Bear in mind an S1 is going to be about 15 years old. Things do go wrong! My Elise 111R was ultra reliable by comparison but lacking the last 10% of driver involvement, tactility and sense of occasion you get with an Exige. Happy hunting and feel free to drop me a PM if I can help further. Will caveat by saying I'm not an expert by any means though!
