Just for you sideways!

Definitely better looking than a 135i!

It's easy to look at it as an expensive, heavy Exige but really it's a very small, very light exotic, with a soundtrack to match. Even the hardest cynic would be won over by opening the taps in one in a tunnel. I don't think there's a better looking car available for two or even three times the list price. It left the GTR for dead around the Silverstone GP circuit too. I edited the video to be kind to the GTR because I like them!

They certainly are stunning cars. I was thinking my next car purchase would be a 996GT3, however these seem far more appealing.

I would be interested in hearing how it drives. Is it as predictable as I have read? Basically, will it allow you to pull big drifts?! I see you are a Caterham owner as well-how do they compare?

I like the new Exige V6. Then I see a picture on an S2 like in the photo and I can't help feeling the V6 has lost something while 'growing up'. I still find the S2 more pleasing to the eye and so I still find myself 'yearning' for an S2, whereas the V6 falls into the category of nice, but less inspiring. Perhaps with time or even ownership I'll change my mind, but it still doesn't quite stir up the same emotions. Pity

I don't see why that's a shame.

It's good for you that you prefer the S2, they're cheaper to buy, have more accessible performance and will always be special to drive.

I used to think the S3 was too long wheelbase but looking at the S2 now they look really stubby. In a good way though as I've said many times the cars are sufficiently different to be able to want one of each, which I do! I'd still love a Cup 260 but I'm pretty sure I'd be putting more miles on the V6.

Thought I'd chuck in my 2p here.

I bought a Elise Sport 160 in 2000, paid nigh-on £30k for it and it soon became both a fun car and a daily driver - and I kept it until 2009 when I bought a gen 2 Cayman 2. At the time I reflected that it took a 50k, 320bhp Porsche (and probably the best driving dynamics car they produced, ignoring 90k GT3RS). Since then I've gone "on" to an Vantage N400, got bored - then a Range Rover, S8 etc... (i.e. expensive powerful machines) - nothing really floated my boat but I certainly couldn't back to a sub-200bhp Elise.

However, a 350bhp (factory) Elise. Nice. Count me in.

13 years later, twice the price, twice the power, (ok it's put on 300kgs). But compared to the price of, say, GT3s or even a Boxster (past £50k now, they were 30k when I bought my car)

Even at £60k I'd be interested. And it's achingly pretty and seems to come from a time when cars were cars.

Have to agree with the last comment. Sat in a exige v6 today and it was refreshing to have a manual box, no power assistance on the steering and just what you need to have maximum fun.

Mpg and running costs seem trivial compared with the kind of stuff this can show up. Definatley on the short list.

Anyone bought a roadster yet?

The few roadsters I've seen for sale don't have the rear spoiler.
Does this mean the coupe also doesn't really need it?

No road car really needs a spoiler. The coupe needs the rear wing just as much (or as little) as the 911 GT3 needs its one.

Downforce is modest at around 80kg at high speed, more meaningful is the removal of lift. Less of an issue on the Roadster with a 145mph speed limiter. But you can reasonably assume a Roadster will be generating lift at that speed, whereas the coupe with rear wing should be stable right up to 174mph.

So is the spoiler an option on the roadster?

For the record, as much as I really like a be-spoilered sports car, i think the roadster looks good without it.
(No doubt it'd look just as good with one)

No Roadster is spoiler-less. For precisely the reason that some prefer the more discreet spoiler-less look.

But I'm sure some dealer could be persuaded to bolt one on a roadster if someone was willing to pay what it could cost.

Much easier to buy a coupe and have a soft top fitted of course...

Apologies for the thread revival but I found this thread by accident but it seemed timily to post. Mainly because I now have an Exige V6 (below) and spent the day yesterday driving an M135i.

For a road car, the M135i is absolutely superb. With the autobox it's a quick car, certainly all you really need on the road. Driving around town it's comfortable, easy to drive and veey practical when it comes to filling the boot up. Out of town it's quick on the A roads and also competent on the B road twistes. It's a completely unassuming car (I drove a black one) and it flies under the radar which is great.

The Exige however is bright (well mine is), louder and a real focussed drivers car which makes it an event to drive every time. Through the country lanes, it can carry speed everywhere and is very well dampered over poor surfaces. Where the M135i hops about (even in sport mode) the Exige glides and grips. The M135i also rolls on corners in comparison. In other words I felt comfortable at speed in a straight line in the BMW up to a certain speed but in the corners I was having to brake and manage the car more. It didn't feel as settled. The Exige however carries more speed into the corners and is more composed at speed.

They're both completely different cars but if I'm honest, I'd have both. The M135i for day to day stuff and the Exige for fun smile
