Is there a best time of year to buy? I'm just about to commence renting a new flat which conveniently has a garage (central London) so thought I might treat myself for a year and then be sensible and buy a flat smile Is there a difference in price depending on the time of year that you buy? Ideal spec would be a magnetic blue 111R with 2006 spec.

I brought my 1st Lotus (Elise 111r) at the end of December. It's now peak time of the year, so while prices might be strong there should be more choice. The car is amazing, so either buy one now and enjoy it over the summer, or wait until November time, and still have to wait until next March/April to enjoy it properly in the nicer weather! (I only drove mine a few times in Jan/Feb - all with the roof off with hat & thermals on etc!!)
I'd recommend option 1 !! Life's too short!

PS. I think I've seen one advertised on AT that fits your description.

While they are still depreciating, I think they fall slightly faster during autumn and slightly slower during spring. Once prices have broadly stabilised, I don't think there's a significant seasonal variation. Any variation there is is pretty insignificant anyway; certainly not enough to be worth holding off to a particular time of year to buy or sell.

Prices are pretty strong all year round, there are just fewer to choose from during the winter months. Prices haven't dropped much in the last couple years either.

HI AyBee I'm Bebee

All newish cars depreciate, some quicker than others, established classics go up in value, new Lotus motors are one of the slowest marques to depreciate.
What you see advertised at a certain price is not always what it sells for (the something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay)what I have noticed over the years is that specialist sports TVR, Lotus in particular, remain at the same price/value all year round, where as Auto Trader Sports, like the Mazda, TT, S2000, those widely available more common sports and soft tops tend to be valued what ever the season is, this is due to competition from trade and private sellers, in short, it doesn't matter what time of year you're looking for an Elise, the likely hood is that it's value/price will be the same regardless of season.
Go for it now, as has been said, life is too short to wait.

I agree, no best time for an Elise.
I got mine in October, and didn't stop raining for about 4 months.
But it was because I found the right car.

I was hunting for mine from around August last year until December! So glad I didn't rush into the first one!

How many did you look at? I've never actually driven a 111R (have passengered in one).

I looked at 4 before 'the one' !! 2 were 111s, which I did like and went through the whole debate (separate thread on here!) but ended up with 111r. The car is a weekend toy for me and the smile factor with the 2nd cam is brilliant!
I still find it very drivable just keeping it on 1st cam and save the 2nd cam for the odd blast!!
Go for it.
I think there's a blue 06 111r for sale at the mo (AT/PH/SELOC ??)

I must of looked at about 6-7 and did a lot of miles searching for the right car. I wanted a 111R at first but after a back to back test drive with a 111S I decided the 111S was the one for me and found a great low mileage un modded car with hardtop as late 111S should have a hardtop when they left the factory.
