Anyone had one of these fail - the air is blowing on the face vents and movement of the knob changes nothing. I understand that there is an electric distribution motor which can fail particularly as its prone to getting wet. However my 2004 Elise has rarely been driven in the wet and is always garaged. Obviously I want to pinpoint the fault if possible as I understand that to replace the motor requires clam shell removal. Anyone had this problem?

Defo sounds like resistor pack and yes a clam off job to do it.

Less labour if no air con but bank on around £300-400 with a good indie of £500-700 with a dealer, add a bit for extra work and re-gas if you have a/c

Change the tow hook to a stainess one whilst the clam is off and also check your rad, if still a plastic end cap one could be worth change to an alloy one

If it's the resistor pack then the blower would fail, not the vent selection.

Is the vent selection motorised? I have no idea myself. Though I would have thought not.

When the front clam was off mine earlier this year I had a pro ally rad fitted, silicon hoses, a powder coated tow post and stainless brake flexy pipes.

Pop over to SELOC I'm sure someone on there will know the answers.

Edited to say "power coated stainless tow post".

It would be worthwhile checking the back of the switches on the dash. Could be something as simple as a loose wire.

Other than that the flap actuator. frown
