Hi all,

I've been having problems with my S2 Elise S, very much as described in this thread;

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=104...

I found a webpage once where someone described taking their throttle apart, replacing the gear lubricant which had plasticised, adjusting stops etc. Unfortunately I can't find this page now, but not to be dissuaded I've taken the throttle body off anyway. But I can't get at the workings of it because it is riveted together. Is there any way of getting into this? Or should I just cut my losses and get a new (or second hand) throttle?

Also, just out of interest, why is it cooled? That was a slightly messy surprise.

Any input appreciated!

Nick

Nick,

Twas I that started the thread - I solved it ! (Thought I'd updated but having checked, that was only on MLOC).

Before you do anything, it's worth checking that the ECU software is up to date.

Mine wasn't - Stratstone Leicester reflashed the ECU and touch wood it's been fine ever since - that was 18 months, 4000 miles and 2 track days ago.

If I remember correctly, it was about £100 - cheaper than either of new throttle pedal assembly or new throttle body . . . . . .

Thanks for the update, that sounds like a good avenue to pursue. I'll give it a go.

Just to update this for the sake of completeness - I had mine reflashed, and four months on I've had no reoccurrence of the problem. Thanks for the tip!

...and the problem is now reoccurring. frown

This is after I had the battery disconnected for a few days. It has clearly lost some settings, because a) the software revision number displayed on a stack reset is now 1.00.00 (or similar), whereas it used to be some later version and b) the arm/disarm alarm beeps have been activated. However, I had the ECU software checked by a dealer, and they told me it was up to date. They also told me the number displayed on the stack isn't relevant. This all happened long enough ago that it would have relearned any settings.

Anyone have any clue what vital information went missing during a couple of days of disconnected battery, or otherwise shed light?

Nick

Mine does this but only after being left stored for a couple of weeks at a time. Had the fault code read and it indicates a throttle position sensor error. I've not driven the car for 6 months so i'll expect it to happen again when I tax and start using it next month. I'm not far from PSR so I'll get Paul to have a look if it does it again.
