Hello, new to elise ownership. I wanted to ask whether people change their gearbox oil as part of service and if so how often?
I couldn't find any record in my cars service history and i wonder whether i should prioritise.

I have a K series S2 and something tells me it is part of the 54k mile service.

Mine has done nearly 70k now and the gearbox oil has been changed twice as I'm pretty cautious. The Rover recommendation is MTF94 however last time, I used Millers NanoTech and the difference was incredible!

Good luck smile

Cheers, i talked today with a mechanic and he said that the factory didn't suggest gearbox oil change for the s1 but did so for the s2 (both k engined cars) which is very weird. I ll take it back to them to have a look...

Made it feel tighter and more precise, less rubbery. Hard to explain but it was an immediate and positive difference.

I think you need 2.1 litres for an oil change or 2.5 litres if filling up after a rebuild.

I changed mine a few years ago (S1 111s) and it made a difference. I just bought what ever the recommended oil was, nothing fancy. I think it ended up costing about £20.

Make sure you have a nozzle off of a tube of silicone or something like that and a length of hose pipe/tubing so that you can fill it up again easily. You won't be able to get a funnel into the filling hole and you don't want to drop the oil out and then find you can't get it back in again!

I think the service notes mention that the gearbox is "filled for life"

I think you are right about this filled for life guidance for the s1. But was wondering whether people actualy follow it.

My advice would be to change it. You will notice a benefit (even if it is really only in your head!). Cheap and easy as well.
