Occasionally I check the classifieds for when the time comes for me to purchase my first elise.
One of my criteria would be a hardtop roof, but what I've noticed is that dealers are showing photos of hardtop roofs fully colour coordinated or stripped up and the advert then says "hardtop at extra cost", when surely the hardtop is part of the original car?
Is this common practice

It was an option when I bought mine - don't know if that's still the case? Cost me over £1k as far as I recall

Expensive option. Negotiating tool when buying. It's a must have for me as I don't have a garage, but there are people that live without. If negotiating on a SH car, value it around the £500 mark.

Sorry didn't mean new cars, I was referring to secondhand cars.

I'm one of the traders you might have seen do that (Jon Seal Sportscars Ltd) If you are keen on the car and it was a good deal I'd probably throw the hardtop back in.

The Hardtop was an additional accessory so not part of the original cars specification. For every buyer that wants a roof there are two that will never bother so its not sharp practice to split the roof its something can can be negotiated in or out of a deal.

Also because we make new hardtops for the Elise I often get a car that doesnt come with a hardtop that we can make one for as part of the deal. Just done this very thing on the last Elsie we sold.

Hardtop was standard on later S2 111s. I paid near asking price for my Elise so hardtop was included but the ad did state hardtop extra.
It's never on the car as I don't tend to drive the car in winter and if it's dry and the Elise comes out to play the top is off.
