surely it depends how much discount your wanting - there will big a difference in asking for £20 off rather than £2,000

Pick your car. Make an offer. They either accept or decline.

If it's a Lotus, niche market, not loads of buyers. Good deals can be had. Have to know your product.

I'd say most dealers are 'movable' on prices, phone all Lotus dealers nationwide though.

I went to Oakmere Lotus last week to have my oil cooling pipes done (factory recall) and was given the key for a V6 Exige, they gave a great PX price for mine, I'd still sell it myself though for the extra, and I like having the cash when negotiation.
In that time to now the orange V6 Cup they have has been reduced by 5k, it's now 60k and new.
So that might have further reduction on a cash deal.

I was bitten by the V6.

Likewise, I had a sit in a used Exige V6 and the salesman asked if I fancied taking out.... I declined on the basis that I wanted to do the sums back at home.

The reason for the original question is that they appear to have old used stock hanging around for ages with out being sold.

No doubt there is wiggle room, but we couldn't find any.

A couple of months ago they had a red Evora S at £37k, they wouldn't budge, and then didn't impress with their trade-in offer (one of which I'd have hoped to get something from).

We did our normal trick of walking away. We got £1,600 more for our car in a private sale, and they discounted their Evora down to £35k - unfortunately just after we bought a different one privately.

They had surprisingly little used Lotus stock, so wonder if they were trying to maximise £££ per car?

The right car (everyone wants) will sell if they have priced correctly simple ! 2k off a car at 37k is a bit of an ask as they have probably paid 33.5k – 34k for it

Don't forget dealers have to make a profit !

Great deal's on new car's (retail prices paid if you are a Lotus customer), I'm looking to buy an Exige S V6 next so will probably sell my Elise R privately (it's a cracking car) but will not be until next year at the earliest

No I wasn't clear enough - they changed the sticker price from £37k to £35k a couple of weeks after not budging during my negotiations - I'd have snapped their hands-off if they'd have some down £2k but I'd just bought elsewhere when they bit the bullet.

Been down that path. Dealer couldn't possibly budge on the price. Walk away. Two weeks later, miraculously, able to take off £1800. Luckily for him hadn't bought a car so got a deal. Not JCT

I would say most dealers would be open to negotiation. Have kept an eye on the market last several months or so and many cars have sat on the forecourts and been reduced without selling. One in particular was £55k, down to £50k and now at £48k on a 15 plate with 1.8k miles. With the 50/50 deals still running it seems second hand cars are currently proving very difficult to shift.

They're salesmen ultimately and representing a business. The offer has to suit you and them. Be reasonable and realistic in your expectations, compare the market. I just bought an Elise S Cup from them and am happy with my 'deal' so stick with it, they're not a bad dealership from what I've seen and my car if fair when compared with other cars and dealerships. Plus, they're Northern. Bingo.
