I bought a 53 plate 111s a year a go for la smidgen less than 10k. Only down side is that it's a Cat D. Only damage I've found is in behind the front clam but it's very minor.

The next thing is a suspension refresh but that can wait till winter time.

Get one and enjoy it, also as others have said its not going to loose you money like most cars, and be prepared to fork out on it now and again.

I had a very nice modified S2 111S a few years ago now (details in profile) and struggled to get £13k for it despite it being low miles and mint. Funny old world. But then all Loti, and most sports cars in general, seem to have appreciated in the last 5 or so years.

I have no association with the seller, looks good on the surface.

Thanks, I did give him a call and whilst it has been serviced It has no real history, its all been done by the owner, which I know will be a problem when I come to sell next year.

Thanks though

So would you guys go s1 or s2 based on the below ?

Thanks

The best advice I received was to try as many variants as possible.

I tried at least half a dozen models (including S1 111s, S2 K, S2 R, S2 S...) before buying (2007 Elise S, 134bhp) as that fit the bill for me.

Don't forget about pre & post facelift cars of the same variant because they can have very different characters!

Overlook the VX220 at your peril. Still but probably not for long more car for the money over the Lotus. Getting to the point where they are actually more exclusive. The Only S2 Variant with appreciating prices currently. Up 30% in the last 2 years and still climbing. Need to be very good to command top prices but the trick is locating a good one. Very hard.

Azure Blue is one of the best colours for the S1 along with Spice yellow(Norfolk Mustard is similar but not the same) Titanium looks great but blends in with the road surface so you are quite invisible! Red on the S1 seems not to show the curves as well as the other colours. As the number of cars continues to fall choice may become limited!

Agreed, THE best S1 colour, but sadly no chance with this budget as it was mostly Sport 160s. 13 of them I think. A few special orders for other models, and quite a few colour-change resprays, but still rarer than rocking-horse sh*t.

Lighter colours bring out the shape of the car better. Ali Silver or Titanium hide stonechips quite well. Black will never look good on the S1 shape, hiding all the curves. Also, it will never look clean!

Azure blue with cream leather is "the" S1 colour of choice for many, but for no real reason.

Chrome Orange or Spice Yellow for me next time around please. smile

Not originally what I was looking for, not the colour I was looking for ( but I really like it !! And there is a really good reason for it !) and out of budget !! But hey you only live once !

Will post pics when I actually have it

Congrats OP. Looking forward to seeing pics.

Black works excellently on the Sport 160 but less so on the standard car IMO.

Azure does seem to be a popular colour and I paid a premium back in the day to have it, even though I am not really one for blue cars.

Hi guys a little update, in the end a really lovely S2 came up, 2006 (Toyota engine car), I know the head gasket / K series issue is totally fixable but I just didn't fancy it having had two head gaskets go on previous cars (one MG years ago and one range rover)

That combined with the S2 being more useable made my mind up. I have ended up with a spec that is exactly what I would have chosen (but probably is not for everyone) It has cloth probax seats and Air con (which was essential for me after I had driven a few) So the budget went out of the window. Its red and I love red cars, always makes me smile ... I have two other red sports cars that it will match (very sad I know !!)

I picked it up on Friday, started driving the 80 miles home with the roof off and then the heavens opened and the roads started to flood just south of Winchester, it got so bad that at one point a lorry went so fast the other way the wave of spray went over the roof and straight into my face, couple this with the fact the windscreen wiper clearly hasn't been used in years ( very smeary !!) It made for an interesting drive home.

So roof on and Aircon on, the rest of the drive home was I am pleased to say uneventful !!

One slight aside, when I tried the probax seats originally I was in agony after 20 mins of driving (sacroiliac joint issues) however I thought I would be fine with a lumbar support so bought one of these and hey presto 300 miles so far and no pain at all. Best £10 I have ever spent just in case anyone has similar issues.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, have attached a rather dreadful photo below !!
