I'm looking at chopping in my M3 track car for an S2 Exige, but I'm slightly confused by the various packs.

I've yet to find a definitive list of what each pack provides.

I think I've roughly established from looking through adverts that I want Sports and Performance, but can anyone tell me what's included with each and what's essential for track?

That brings me onto my second question, are these trackable out of the box? This is going to be a mostly track, occasional weekend car for me, so I want something capable of hard track use.

Things like suspension, engine, cooling, braking? Is it all up to it, or are there things I need to look at upgrading?

Thanks.

They are definitely track capable out of the box, but I would look at a 240, 260 or Sprint version. These come with higher power and bigger brakes which make them more suited. I would say the only vital extra for track would be the harness seats!

Trackable out of the box, though I would fit a baffled sump if you are quick.

I might have been a little mislead, Performance Pack gives you the same as having a 240 or 260:

Thanks for the heads up, so I suppose I'm really looking for one with all packs for my use case - track and occasional road.

Is that it for track prep then, just a baffled sump?

You'd think a car that came with A048s as standard would already be baffled redface

My Lotus is the only car I've ever had that hasn't needed a brake upgrade on track. It got one anyway but it didn't *need* it. Huge fun on track too. Not the fastest things out there but they are sublime to drive.

You really don't need the touring pack for road use. I don't have it and I've done the North Coast 500 with absolutely no problems. Maybe a cup holder could have been useful but that's it!

Sports pack is probably all you need.

Performance pack added the bigger roof scoop which doesn't do much to aid cooling (better to run some pipes to the side intakes and blend into the inter cooler shrowd) and 4 pot 2 piece brakes - depending on your driving style these might be overkill- I never struggled with the std ones and RS29s

Chassis brace kit is a good idea if you plan on pushing hard as it makes things double shear

I had a Torsen diff in mine too but it could be argued that adds to under steer depending on driving style.

260 upgrade is easy enough to do (more if you want to go aftermarket) but the gearbox is a worry much beyond that.

Engine mount inserts are cheap and easy and I would say are a must for hard use, you wouldn't believe how much the engine rocks without them.

My old one (2009 car in club racer colours is (or was) for sale at Jnc 17 cars and ready to rock - was immaculate when I parted with it in 2013.

I think for a car that's used almost exclusively for track and coming from a car that has upgraded brakes all around, I think the better brakes would certainly come in handy.

What options are there regarding the baffled sump and is this why I keep seeing pictures of Accusumps fitted in some adverts? What do they do?

Loads of aftermarket baffled sump options (I had a G-Pan fitted to my S2 Sprint), they are a few hundred quid fitted if I recall right. That's what I would go with rather than an accusump. Ideal world is to have both of course but no idea how much an after market accusump is!
